Jake Knapp
Jake Knapp has been on a tear as of late. The UCLA product has made five cuts in a row and he hasn’t finished worse than T-27 during this cut streak. Most notably during this run, Knapp finished T-4 at the Rocket Classic in late June and T-3 at the 3M Open last week.
His T-4 at the Rocket Classic is very notable, as this tournament was played at Detroit Golf Club, which like this week’s Sedgefield Country Club, was designed by Donald Ross. During this high finish at Detroit Golf Club, Knapp caught fire in the second round and carded an 11-under 61, which impressively isn’t even his lowest round this season. At the Cognizant Classic in March, Knapp finished T-6 and opened the event with a 12-under 59, which is his lowest round score on the PGA TOUR this season and the course record at PGA National by two strokes.
Knapp gained strokes across the board at last week’s 3M Open and he has magnificently shot under par in 17 of his 20 rounds during this current five-made cut streak he is riding. Knapp ranks sixth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and while he has never competed at Sedgefield CC before, he has the tools to thrive at this course.
Knapp ranks eighth in par four performance this season and he ranks eighth in 400-450-yard efficiency when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds, which bodes extremely well for Sedgefield CC. Eight of the 12 par fours at this par 70 fall in this range and three of the last five winners at Sedgefield CC have finished the event top-three in efficiency on the 400-450-yard par fours of this venue.
Knapp has a great chance to contend for his second PGA TOUR win this week and he shouldn’t be a popular pick in OAD pools, with many bigger names like Matt Fitzpatrick and Keegan Bradley competing at the Wyndham Championship.
