Daniel Berger
After dealing with a lingering back injury for a few years, Daniel Berger is fully healthy again and having an outstanding season. The former top-12 ranked player in the world has made 11-of-13 cuts and he has finished inside the top-25 nine times. Most notably, Berger finished runner-up at the WM Phoenix Open in February and he has finished inside the top-15 in all four of his starts at Signature Events, including a T-3 at the RBC Heritage last month.
Berger ranks eighth in total strokes gained and 15th in the FedEx Cup standings. Furthermore, the 32-year-old ranks fourth in par four performance and 15th in SG APP, setting him up perfectly for his return to Colonial CC this week. Over the last five years, four of the winners at this track have finished the week top-eight in both par four efficiency and SG APP.
This isn’t Berger’s first rodeo at Colonial either. The veteran won the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial, which is one of his three top-25 finishes in six starts at the Texas-based par 70. Berger has five career top-10 finishes in the Lone Star State and when we compare this field’s histories at Texas courses, Berger ranks ninth in strokes gained per round. Plus, when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at par 70s, the veteran ranks eighth in strokes gained per round.
Berger has gained strokes on approach at six consecutive events and he closed last week’s PGA Championship with a 3-under 68. Berger is primed to contend at the Charles Schwab Challenge this week and he is a superb option for OAD pools this week. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Berger’s +2200 odds to win the Charles Schwab Challenge rank second in this field, only trailing world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
