Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay is having another great season on the PGA TOUR. The 33-year-old has made 10-of-11 cuts and six of these finishes have been top-15 results. Four of these top-15 finishes have come at Signature Events, including a T-4 at the Truist Championship earlier this month. This is notable, as this week’s Memorial Tournament is another Signature Event, meaning the PGA TOUR’s best players will be competing for a $20 million purse. For the season, Cantlay ranks 11th in total strokes gained, 10th in SG APP and fifth in par four performance.
Cantlay is well overdue for a win and returning to Muirfield Village for the Memorial this week is a perfect situation for him to rejoin the winner’s circle. In five of his nine starts at Muirfield Village, Cantlay has finished inside the top-10, including getting a win in 2019 and 2021. The UCLA product has an 8-under 64 on his resume at Muirfield Village and when we compare this field’s results at this par 72, Cantlay ranks third in strokes gained per round.
What makes Cantlay such a strong fit for Muirfield Village is that this course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Among this field, Cantlay ranks third in strokes gained per round at Nicklaus-designed courses. More importantly, Muirfield Village is home to bentgrass putting surfaces and Cantlay has notoriously played his best golf on this type of grass throughout his career. An eye-popping six of Cantlay’s eight PGA TOUR wins have come at venues with bentgrass putting surfaces and when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at courses with bentgrass greens, he ranks third in strokes gained per round.
Using Cantlay on bentgrass is a must for OAD pools and while there are a few more bentgrass courses on the schedule for the rest of the season, none better suit Cantlay’s game than Muirfield Village. Possibly with a win, Cantlay should have a terrific showing at the Memorial this week and earn you a huge chunk of money at this lucrative Signature Event. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Cantlay carries the fifth-best odds to win the Memorial at +2200.
