Tony Finau
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are by far the two best options this week. Although using one of them is tempting, I will be saving those studs for larger purses down the road. This brings me to Finau, who has winning upside this week and is a player should get overlooked in your OAD pool, as he is coming off a missed cut at THE PLAYERS Championship. Finau missing the weekend at TPC Sawgrass wasn’t overly surprising, as he has never finished better than T19th at the Dye design. In general, Finau has rarely played well in the state of Florida.
Conversely, Finau has flourished in Texas throughout his career, especially at Memorial Park. Finau won the 2022 Houston Open at this course by four shots, and then he finished runner-up at Memorial Park last season. Finau notably missed his previous cut before both these stellar performances at Memorial Park and during both these starts, Finau carded an incredible 8-under 62 at the difficult par 70, which not only is Finau’s career-low on the PGA TOUR, but is the course record at Memorial Park.
The 35-year-old shooting the course record twice here speaks volumes to Finau’s love for this track, and he is gaining an eye-popping 2.45 strokes per round at Memorial Park for his career, which is easily the best among the players in this week’s field that have competed at the Texas venue more than once. For some perspective, Scheffler ranks second at 2.1 strokes per round. Finau ranks third in strokes gained per round when compare this field’s histories in the Lone State State, and he has five top-five finishes in Texas on his resume.
Before the missed cut at THE PLAYERS Championship two weeks ago, Finau had produced two top-15 finishes in his previous three starts, and he ranks eighth in SGT2G over his last 50 rounds. Finau should have the best performance of the season at Memorial Park this week, and this is an excellent time to use him in your OAD pool. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Finau carries the fourth-best odds to win the Texas Children’s Houston Open at +3000.
