As a Texas native, Jordan Spieth loves competing in the Lone Star State. Two of his last six wins on the PGA TOUR have come in Texas and he ranks second in strokes gained per round when we compare this field’s histories at Texas venues, trailing only Scottie Scheffler.
This week’s CJ CUP Byron Nelson will be played at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, and Spieth has flourished at this venue. In his three starts at this Texas track, Spieth has finished T-9, runner-up and MC. The former Texas Longhorn only missed the cut by one shot in that latter start and in his 10 rounds at TPC Craig Ranch, Spieth is averaging a 67.1 score at the par 71, including an 8-under 63 in 2021.
Spieth returns to TPC Craig Ranch this week playing his best golf of the season. The three-time major champion has finished T-12, T-14 and T-18 in his last three starts. That final finish came at the RBC Heritage two weeks ago, which is a Signature Event that features all of the PGA TOUR’s best players. Spieth had a great showing as a ball striker that week, finishing third among the world-class field in GIR. The 31-year-old now faces a far weaker field and a much easier course at TPC Craig Ranch.
This track is a very scoreable par 71, where each of the four winners here have shot -23 or better. Spieth also has a knack for winning in low scoring conditions, as seven of his 16 wins have been at -17 or lower. Furthermore, Spieth has won four times at a TPC course and TPC Craig Ranch presenting bentgrass greens is also a great sign for him, as six of Spieth’s 16 wins have come at tracks with this type of putting surface.
Spieth should contend in his home state this week and this is a great time to deploy him in your OAD pool. Trailing only Scheffler, Speith carries the second-best odds to win THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on DraftKings Sportsbook at +1800.
