Viktor Hovland
Hovland enters this week in terrific form. After securing his first win of the season at the Valspar Championship, the 27-year-old finished T21 at the Masters and T13 at the RBC Heritage in his next two starts. That latter tournament is a Signature Event that featured no cut, which is the case again this week with the Truist Championship. Signature Events feature the PGA TOUR’s best players competing for a $20 million purse. During that T13 at the RBC Heritage, Hovland gained strokes in every major category, which is a telling sign that his game is firing on all cylinders right now. Hovland has shot under par in 10 of his last 12 rounds and he ranks third in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 12 rounds.
This week’s Truist Championship will be played at the Wissahickon Course of the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. This is the first time this venue has hosted a PGA TOUR event, so this uncharted territory for this entire field. That said, with the Wissahickon Course being a par 70 that is home to bentgrass greens, this is a perfect venue Hovland to contend.
Two of his last four PGA TOUR wins have come at courses that feature bentgrass putting surfaces and when we compare this field’s last 50 rounds at venues with this green type, Hovland ranks fourth in strokes gained per round.
