Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood is in stellar form and this is the perfect time for him to capture his elusive first PGA TOUR win. The Englishman simply doesn’t have a blemish in his game right now. While gaining strokes in every major category at the volatile TPC Sawgrass, Fleetwood finished T-14th at THE PLAYERS Championship last week, including a 6-under 66 during the second round. The 34-year-old has now finished T-16th or better in nine of his past 10 starts worldwide and he has shot under par in 32 of his 40 rounds during this stretch. This impressive and consistent run of golf has moved Fleetwood up to a career-high No. 9 in the world golf rankings, and his incredible iron play has been the primary ingredient for his success.
This season, Fleetwood ranks second on the PGA TOUR in SG APP, which bodes extremely well for his return to the Copperhead Course this week. This Florida track is a prime example of a second-shot course where being in elite form with your irons is a must, as three of the last five winners at the Copperhead Course have finished the week top-seven in SG APP.
This will be Fleetwood’s third start at the Copperhead Course and he thrived in his first two attempts at tricky par 71, finishing T-16th in 2022 and then T-3rd in 2023. Despite the Copperhead Course being one of the most difficult tracks on the annual PGA TOUR schedule, Fleetwood has shot under par in seven of his eight rounds at this venue. He is gaining 2.33 strokes per round at the Copperhead Course, which is the best among the player’s in this week’s field that have competed at par 71 more than once. Overall, Fleetwood has had a ton of success at Florida-based courses, ranking third among this week’s field in strokes gained per round in the Sunshine State.
