Maverick McNealy
Very few players head to Hawaii this week playing better golf than Maverick McNealy. Excluding his withdrawal from the ZOZO Championship, McNealy has finished T16th, T6th, T17th, first and T8th in his last five starts. During this stretch, McNealy has been great with his irons, with the veteran gaining strokes on approach at every event. Additionally, McNealy has notably shot under par in 19 of these 20 rounds, including a career-low eight-under 62 during his win at the RSM Classic. His lone round not under par during this span also came during that victory and it wasn’t a concerning performance in any way, with McNealy carding an even par 70.
This five-start run has vaulted McNealy up 46 spots in the World Golf Rankings to a career-best 28th and he now heads to Waialae CC, where McNealy finished T7 two years ago and where he has never missed a cut in three starts. The Stanford product has only played once so far this season, but last season, McNealy finished the year 10th in SG ARG and 12th in par four performance, making him a perfect match for Waialae CC. Of the last five winners at this par 70, three have finished top-16 in both SG ARG and par four efficiency during their victories.
Playing the best golf of his career, McNealy is tied for the fifth-best odds to win the Sony Open on the DraftKings Sportsbook (+2500) and using him now for in your one and done pool makes a ton of sense, with no specific tournament down the road that he needs to be saved for. McNealy’s game is ascending right now and he should contend for a win this weekend.
