Robert MacIntyre
Born and raised in Scotland, Robert MacIntyre looks forward to the Genesis Scottish Open every year. Last season, the 28-year-old completed his childhood dream and became the first Scot in 25 years to win this event, including a 7-under 63 during the third round, which is his career-low at the Renaissance Club. The year prior, MacIntyre was extremely close to winning the Genesis Scottish Open as well, finishing runner-up to Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Overall, MacIntyre has made 4-of-6 cuts at the Renaissance Club and all four of these finishes have been results of T-18 or better. Among the players in this week’s field, MacIntyre ranks second only to McIlroy in strokes gained per round at the par 70 and MacIntyre returns to the Renaissance Club in excellent form this week.
In his last five starts, MacIntyre has finished T-6, T-20, T-36, runner-up and T-17, in that order. Notably, that runner-up finish came at the demanding Oakmont Country Club for the U.S. Open, marking the Scot’s best major finish to date. This wasn’t the first time we have seen MacIntyre contend in a world-class field this season either, as he also finished T-11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and ninth at THE PLAYERS Championship. MacIntyre has carded eight top-25 finishes in 17 starts this season and he faces another strong field this week at the Genesis Scottish Open.
MacIntyre ranks eighth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he has gained strokes on approach in five of his last six starts, which is an encouraging sign for the Renaissance Club, as each of the last three victors at this links course have finished the event top-seven in SG APP. Another factor that bodes well for MacIntyre at the Renaissance Club is that he ranks seventh in par four efficiency when we analyze this field’s past 24 rounds. The Renaissance Club features 10 par fours and each of the last five winners at this venue have finished the Genesis Scottish Open top-eight in par four efficiency.
