Cameron Young
After a rocky start to the season, Young has regained his form and he has been finishing high on leaderboards recently. Young has made seven straight cuts and during this streak. He has also posted three top seven finishes, most recently with a T4 at the U.S. Open two weeks ago. In the difficult conditions at Oakmont Country Club, Young shot even par or better in three of his four rounds — which was an impressive feat, given the average score for the week was 73.8 at the par 70 — and he finished the major third in SGP. When we compare this field’s last 24 rounds, Young ranks sixth in total strokes gained.
The 28-year-old now heads to Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Classic, which is a course he has flourished at in the past. Young finished runner-up in his first attempt at Detroit Golf Club in 2022 and then he finished T6 in his second start at the venue last year. Among the players in this field that have competed at Detroit Golf Club more than once, Young ranks first in average finish and first in strokes gained per round.
Detroit Golf Club is a short and easy Donald Ross design, where long hitters and elite par five players have a distinct advantage. Young checks both these boxes. This season, the bomber ranks 17th in driving distance and 32nd in par five performance. Specifically, three of the four par fives at Detroit Golf Club fall between 550-600 yards, and when we analyze this field’s last 24 rounds, Young ranks first in efficiency on 550-600-yard par fives.
The Wake Forest product also ranks ninth in SGP this season, which bodes extremely well for a birdie-fest like the Rocket Classic, where the average winning score has been 22.3 strokes under par since the tournament’s inception in 2019. Young should once again contend at Detroit Golf Club this week and using him in your OAD pool is a wise move. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Young carries the fifth-best odds to win the Rocket Classic at +2800.
