Sam Burns
Sam Burns is playing his best golf of the season right now. The 28-year-old has made six cuts in a row and four of these finishes have been top-20 results. Most recently, Burns finished T-12 at last week’s Memorial Tournament, which was a Signature Event that featured the PGA TOUR’s best players competing for a $20 million purse. At Muirfield Village, Burns carded a 7-under 65 in the second round, which tied for the lowest score of the tournament and is the third 65 he has posted in his last four starts. Plus, Burns gained strokes in every major category at the Memorial Tournament, the first time he has accomplished this feat this season, which is clear evidence that his game is ascending right now.
Burns is a five-time winner on the PGA TOUR and while he has yet to make a big splash this season, him contending soon feels inevitable, possibly as soon as this week at the RBC Canadian Open. Burns has played well at this event in the past, finishing T-4, MC and T-10 in his three starts at the tournament. Burns notably carded a 7-under 63 during the first round of last year’s RBC Canadian Open and he ranks third in strokes gained per round at courses in Canada among the players in this field that have competed north of the border more than once.
This week’s RBC Canadian Open will be played at the North Course of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, which is the first time this venue has hosted a PGA TOUR event. While this is uncharted territory for this entire field, Burns’ game sets up well for the North Course. This track is a par 70 measuring in at 7,389 yards and when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at par 70s that are at least 7,200 yards in length, Burns ranks seventh in strokes gained per round.
After finishing T-12 among the world-class field at the Memorial Tournament last week, Burns faces a much weaker field at the RBC Canadian Open and he has huge upside against this type of competition. Burns carries the sixth-best odds to win the RBC Canadian Open on DraftKings Sportsbook at +3000 and he is an awesome pick for OAD pools this week.
