At the end of Thursday’s 1,000th episode of Big Brother, host Julie Chen Moonves revealed the twist producers had been teasing for the last week — a player would be going home without a HOH, Veto or Blockbuster.

The medieval twist arrived Sunday, but the episode ended before Barrett made the decision that would determine who faced elimination. Who earned safety, who remains in danger and where do things stand entering Wednesday’s episode?

Big Brother Season 28 Episode 26 recap
Mallory’s eviction leaves broken hearts and fractured alliances
In the aftermath of Mallory’s eviction, Drew, Barrett and Melody are all emotional. Dee is conflicted: She is hurt that Drew and Barrett are upset, but she also believes sending Mallory home was best for her game. Yash is annoyed that Drew won the BB Blockbuster and survived, while Drew believes he had to make the cutthroat decision to evict his friend and remain loyal to the Icons. Barrett is simply furious with the Crossovers.
Drew tries to talk to Melody, but she wants nothing to do with him. She is angry that he has lied to her face throughout the game and says it feels as though her heart has been ripped out of her chest. Barrett lied too, but at least he had the courage to choose Mallory and Melody over the Icons.
Melody feels foolish for trusting Drew and doesn’t believe him when he promises he won’t nominate her. Drew considers Melody his best friend in the house, but he recognizes that their relationship may be terrible for her game. By fully committing to the Crossovers, he has placed himself between his alliance and someone he genuinely cares about.
Barrett is equally unhappy with the Icons, but he knows he is at a crossroads. The Crossovers still control nearly half the house, meaning he may have to remain their puppy dog and play the middle a little longer..
Blast from the past
It’s time for the twist, and the houseguests are sent to the year 1000 where they are met by iconic Big Brother alum Britney Haynes, who announces that the HOH comp has been … canceled. And instead, as a result of the dinner table time machine “crushing” the king’s prized hog, he’s demanding one of their heads … aka someone is going home. A head for a hog.
Britney explains that the houseguests will compete in four contests. The winners earn safety and distribute Stones of Safety to protect other players. They also hand out Stones of Sacrifice, forcing selected houseguests to remain in the year 1000 and compete for their survival.
Anyone who loses a medieval competition remains behind to face another opponent. Ultimately, three houseguests will compete in a final contest, with the winner gaining the sole power to eliminate one of the other two.
As Yash says, it’s do or die, and Devens is worried he and Dee have gone from a position of power to a position of peril.
In the first contest, the houseguests have to build a candelabra. Dee knows this could be an easy scenario to take a shot at the Icons, Drew knows he was nominated by his own alliance last week and had a big fight with the other side and Melody hates … everyone … so it’s important for her to save herself. Yash recognizes that since this is not an HOH, he isn’t beholden to his bribe, but unfortunately for him his candelabra falls and Dee finishes her candelabra first to win safety for herself and Devens. Much to Melody’s displeasure.
Dee also gets to set the tone for the rest of the twist, thanks to the Stones of Sacrifice. As Devens points out, The first two recipients of the Stones of Sacrifice will get the most chances to save themselves. Dee notes that Angela might not be in the right headspace to compete, so she is considering Drew and Barrett. But Dee is afraid Drew would save Melody. Haley wants to go first, as she is afraid no one will pick her, so Dee decides to go with Drew and Haley, which makes Barrett feel like he is being replaced in the Crossovers.
Drew harvests himself some safety
The next member of the “royal family” to oversee a competition is Cody Calafiore. He reveals that Drew and Haley have to correctly fill their carts with crops of corn or carrots. Aka it’s a puzzle challenge. Drew is struggling in the challenge, while LaLa is struggling with the thought that she may not have someone to save her. Taylor gives LaLa a pep talk while at the same time she wants to stay strong in the face of adversity to make it to jury.
In the end, Drew defeats Haley earning his safety and the chance to save another houseguest. But who will he save — Angela (like his alliance wants) or Melody (who he really wants to save)? Meanwhile, Haley has to wait in the year 1000 for another opponent.
Drew has a Stone of Safety and a Stone of Sacrifice to hand out and he wants to make sure everyone in the Crossovers is safe. So he gives the Stone of Safety to Angela and the Stone of Sacrifice to Barrett. This is another blow to his relationship with Melody. She continues to feel hurt by Drew and he knows he could rebuild trust between them by using the Stone of Safety on her, but his brain keeps telling him to honor his deal to save Angela. Once again Drew chooses the Icons over his “best friend” in the game and at this point Melody wishes she could say she was shocked, but she isn’t.
Barrett turns sour grapes into sweet victory
Haley is not surprised to see Barrett arrive as her next opponent. She is working with the Icons, but they are the ONLY ones she feels compelled to work with and protect. Sorry, Barrett and Drew.
Big Brother alum Tiffany Mitchell arrives on the scene to explain that Haley and Barrett have to put two “grapes” in a container and walk across a balance beam to put them in a wine press without them falling out. The first to place 28 grapes in the wine press wins and will get to bring two Stones of Safety … and two Stones of Sacrifice back to the future.
Barrett is annoyed that his allies have given Haley more chances at safety and feels his life in the game will truly be in danger if he loses. While Barrett and Haley are struggling in the year 1000, Drew and Dee talk strategy. Dee thinks the goal should be to send in two weaker competitors to give whoever loses between Haley and Barrett the best chance to survive. This means NOT selecting Yash.
In the end, Barrett beats Haley and earns his safety. Barrett has a big decision — does he go along with the plan of the people who just sent his best friend home or does he do what he wants to do?
How the (time) tables have turned
With Melody an easy choice for safety, it comes down to who Barrett chooses to send back to face Haley in the year 1000. Haley is gassed and the Icons want Haley in the game, so the Crossovers want to send LaLa and Taylor into the final contest. But Yash volunteers to go with LaLa to face Haley, as he thinks this is their best chance to get her out of the game. Barrett thinks this decision could change the trajectory of his game.
Would Barrett be bold and chart his own course? Or would he fall into line with the Icons? The answer was … that we’ll have to wait for Wednesday’s episode to find out.
Who was eliminated on Big Brother Sunday?
No one was eliminated during Sunday’s episode. The episode ended before Barrett distributed his Stones of Safety and Sacrifice, leaving Haley’s opponents in the final contest undetermined. The medieval twist will conclude Wednesday, when one houseguest will be eliminated.
