It’s been an up-and-down week for Drew. He went from the high of helping evict Kamu last week to the low of being nominated during an ally’s HOH. Then it looked as if he might have saved himself by burning his bridges with Taylor and LaLa, but an unexpected turn by Barrett could send Drew home.

Would Drew survive? Would Barrett succeed in saving Mallory and sending the Icons a message? And would Taylor find a way to continue on and take her shot at the Icons?

Big Brother Season 28 Week 7 Results

Sunday’s episode began Week 7 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. And coming out of a Viking-themed balance beam comp, Dee outlasted the field to become the new Head of Household.

A week after facing her first real danger of the season, Dee found herself back in power. She’s been at the top of my power rankings all season, and seemed primed to ensure the Icons continue to dominate the game, thanks in part to Devens’ use of the Diamond of Power of Veto last week.

But LaLa won the Power of Veto, forcing Dee to nominate a replacement. That replacement turned out to be fellow Mosh Pit member Mallory, an idea pitched by Devens. Ultimately, that was a bridge too far for Barrett, who turned on the Icons and Drew and spearheaded an effort to save Mallory. But Drew blew up Barrett’s plan by winning the BB Blockbuster. He then sided with the Icons in the eviction vote, helping send Mallory out as the seventh evictee of Big Brother Season 28.

Mad Mallory, Broken Barrett and the Awful Alliance

Before getting down to Season 28 business, Big Brother celebrated reaching its landmark 1,000th episode. And to do so, the dining table time machine took viewers all the way back to the beginning — July 5, 2000.

After a montage revisiting some of the most iconic moments over the 1,000 episodes of Big Brother (including Jason banging pots and pans, LaLa winning the wall comp and Rome and Lyric’s epic showmance) and handing out some awards, we got back to the matter at hand.

Following the Veto ceremony, Barrett is pissed off that another member of the Mosh Pit is up on the block as Mallory joins Drew. He’ll be even more upset when Dee figures out how to tell him that Mallory is now her target. Drew also wants Mallory to stay, but he’s more concerned about protecting his place in the game. Taylor sees her best-case scenario is for her to win the Blockbuster, Mallory to win the vote and Drew to go out that door.

Mallory is furious and takes her frustration out on a pillow. She HATES Dee, saying she’s a liar and a coward. Melody says that if it comes down to it, she will keep Mallory over Drew as he’s going to have to bear the responsibility of his bad game decisions. Mallory tells Barrett that if she goes home this week it will ruin her whole experience. She feels dumb because she never trusted the Mosh Pit, but still put her fate in the hands of Dee by throwing the HOH comp. Barrett is annoyed and confused and finds himself questioning whether he can trust his alliance.

Devens thinks taking out Mallory is the obvious move, but knows if they don’t handle this right it could blow up in their face and the Icons could end up as the minority in the house.

Bar-rat is dead, long live Bar-rat

Dee wants to make sure that the Icons have the votes locked in to send Mallory home before breaking it to Drew and Barrett. They try to pitch Yash, but he’s not feeling the direction they’re going — especially considering they hijacked his HOH reign last week. Meanwhile, Haley wants to evict Taylor over Mallory. She is also tempted to mess with Dee’s HOH the same way that Dee and Devens messed with hers. The Survivor stars’ chaotic gameplay may finally be coming back to haunt them.

Dee and Devens begin to soft launch the idea of a Mallory eviction, which Barrett admits makes him feel a little bit burnt. He questions why even form the alliance if they’re going to blow it all up a week later. He’s over it, and says that no matter what he’s not going to vote out Mallory. Drew, however, is on the block, so he needs the Icons’ support, and is forced to go along with the plan to evict Mallory. Barrett thinks this is stupid, however, and it pisses him off.

Barrett turns Bar-rat, only this time against the Icons, revealing to Mallory that she’s in danger of being evicted. Melody and Mallory are not happy. Barrett suggests that Yash, Taylor and LaLa hate the Icons and are anti-Drew, so he thinks it might be time to consider an alliance with them to blindside Drew. Melody is torn as he’s been a close friend of hers, but he’s also acting sus. Mallory also is hurt that Drew would throw her to the wolves, so maybe she should do the same. Barrett thinks the Icons have been way too comfortable in this game and it’s time for them to feel what it’s like to be blindsided.

Drew blows up Barrett’s blindside

That brings us to the BB Blockbuster.

Julie Chen Moonves previewed tonight’s BB Blockbuster earlier on Thursday with Big Brother: Unlocked hosts and former winners Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur. The competition was designed not only to challenge the houseguests but also to commemorate Big Brother reaching 1,000 episodes.

The houseguest who locked in the correct answer would win the Blockbuster and immediately come off the block.

Ultimately, Drew is the first competitor to lock in, but he does so before seeing all the clues. Mallory clocks in next, with only one answer left for Taylor. Despite not seeing all the clues, it is revealed that Drew has selected the right answer, meaning he is safe and Mallory and Taylor will remain up for eviction on the block.

Drew chooses the Icons as Mallory’s game goes down the drain

With eight houseguests voting, five votes are needed to evict. Dee will serve as the tiebreaker in the event of a 4-4 deadlock.

Things begin as expected, with Melody voting to keep her No. 1 ally, Mallory, and Angela sticking with the Icons’ plan. Barrett stays true to his word and votes to keep Mallory, but Drew follows the plan and votes to keep Taylor—likely against both his wishes and his best interests. Haley sides with the Icons, while Yash and LaLa protect their ally Taylor, sealing Mallory’s fate. The Pipe Queen is sent home, but at least she receives a standing ovation from a crowd filled with iconic former players.

Mallory isn’t surprised that Drew chose the Icons, but she doesn’t hold his vote against him. She is less forgiving of Dee and reiterates that she isn’t a fan of either Dee or her gameplay. Mallory believes nominating her was the wrong move, although she acknowledges that she can’t know exactly what Dee was thinking. Mallory also admits that she wasn’t sure whom she would nominate if she won HOH, so she slowed down and threw the balance-beam competition.

Time for the twist

Before wrapping up episode 1,000, Julie finally revealed the twist — there will be no HOH, no Veto comp and no Blockbuster next week. But someone will be eliminated before the next live eviction vote!
