Who Won the Power of Veto on Big Brother Tonight? Season 28 Week 10 Results

If you had told me before tonight’s episode that Yash and Drew would make a deal to save Drew from the block—and potentially open the door for them to work together—I would have called you crazy. But the Pressure Cooker makes houseguests do strange things, and that’s exactly what happened.

So now Drew is safe and off the block, Taylor has been nominated out of necessity because of the BB Bribe, and Drew’s closest allies, Melody and Barrett, are in significant danger heading into Thursday’s supersized double-eviction episode.

Big Brother Season 28 Week 10 Results

Week 10 began on Sunday with Yash outlasting the field to become the new Head of Household.

This was very interesting thanks to the BB Bribe that is still constraining Yash. As a result of accepting the $5K bribe from Dee earlier in the season, Yash could not nominate Dee or Devens. That left only Drew, Melody, Barrett and Taylor as options for nomination and guaranteed that Dee and Devens will survive at least the first eviction in Thursday’s double eviction episode.

It also limited what Yash can do in the case of a replacement nominee. If one of the nominees won the Pressure Cooker veto — or another player won and used it — Yash’s only eligible replacement nominee would be his No. 1 ally, Taylor. Of course, this is what happened as Drew won the Veto comp. It isn’t that straightforward, however, as Drew made a secret deal with Yash, promising not to target him and to vote to protect Taylor on Thursday.

Who will be the first houseguest to go home in Thursday’s double eviction? And now that Yash is freed from the BB Bribe, will he pivot back to targeting the Icons or will he continue to work with them? We’ll all find out together.

Big Brother Season 28 Episode 34 recap

Moving Target

In the aftermath of the nomination ceremony, Yash says he’d be an idiot not to target Drew. His worst-case scenario is Drew winning veto, taking himself off the block and forcing Yash to put up his No. 1 ally, Taylor. Barrett is annoyed to be put up after not putting Yash up last week amid Yash’s BB Bribe, whatever the true details of that are. Melody feels like she’s alone in this game and Drew expected it.

Drew tells Melody that he thinks he’s the target, while Melody says she’s still irritated. She says in the diary room that Drew and Barrett could win their safety, leaving her on the block with Taylor. That scenario likely ends badly for Melody, as the math adds up to a tie, which Yash would break by voting to save his ally Taylor.

Meanwhile, Taylor wants to believe in Yash’s game plan and to trust the Icons would vote to save her if she ended up on the block. But having to trust the Icons to stay true to their alliance makes Taylor a little scared. She’s right — it never gets easier being on the block.

Devens thinks these nominations are exactly what the Icons wanted, and his goal is to solidify his new alliance with Yash and Taylor and send someone from the other side home. That doesn’t mean he’s down to send Drew home, as he feels Drew is better for his game. He’d rather send Barrett home after last week. Dee also admits that, despite how crazy it may seem, she would also prefer Drew stay in this game as a number for her and Devens — especially after he promises he would be “loyal like a dog” to the Icons. He admits in the diary room he isn’t really telling the truth, but is saying whatever it takes to stay in the house.

Devens talked about going to Final 4 with this new alliance, but Dee is less on board with that, knowing she doesn’t want to go to the end with a strong competitor like Yash. So Dee pitches putting Yash on the block in the next round, which is music to Devens’ ears, as he had been wondering where ruthless Dee had gone after Angela’s eviction.

All in the Family

After a look into Melody’s closeness with her mom and Yash’s love for his family, we see Drew attempt to hype up Melody, even throwing out the possibility of using the Veto on her if he won it. She doubts he would do that, but she might as well shoot her shot to see if she can convince him to follow through on that idea. Of course, Drew admits that he wouldn’t really do that as he was just trying to get her in a better headspace heading into the veto comp. But in thinking about it, he realizes he might be better for his game if it was Melody who went home. That likely broke the hearts of all the Melodrew fans on Twitter.

Drew also talks with Dee about how his mom would love her, hoping that elements of their shared background would bring them closer together. Wondering what all this family talk is about in this episode? Well, it’s all a precursor to the houseguests getting videos from their families back home (if you wonder where Drew gets his … unique … personality from, it’s clearly his dad). Drew gets emotional, thrilled to help his mom get on Big Brother, while Melody is glad to see that her mom is picking up her “calls” and that she’s making her mom proud as a fellow superfan.

All in all, it’s a nice moment with no gameplay, no subterfuge, no hidden agenda. Just a chance to refill the houseguests’ batteries a bit as we get closer and closer to the end of Big Brother Season 28. And the houseguests would need that extra little bit of juice with the Pressure Cooker waiting in the wings.

Under pressure

Yash wants the strongest possible competitor playing for the Veto to keep the nominations the same, so he promises Devens that he would pick him to play if he pulls his own chip. This could earn him some trust with the Icons, but he still has to explain his plan to Taylor. She understands that Devens has proven himself to be a good competitor, but she promises that if she winds up going home on Yash’s HOH, she’s taking his famed “skullet” with her.

Devens’ chip is pulled, making Yash’s promise moot. But when Yash later pulls his own chip, he chooses Dee to play over Taylor. He thinks this is his best chance to keep nominations the same, while Barrett sees it as an indication that Yash’s loyalties lie with the Icons.

Does that mean Yash is now in the Icons’ Circle of Trust? Luckily this week’s Veto comp is themed to the upcoming Focker-In-Law motion picture, so perhaps we could use Jack Byrnes’ techniques to find out. In addition to the Power of Veto, the winner would get to choose three other houseguests to see an early screening of the movie in the BB house.

But to get those fabulous prizes, the houseguests have to survive the Pressure Cooker and the Focker-inspired BB lie detector without cracking. But fear not, Drew has a plan — he decided to position his BB lie detector results higher than everyone else to give himself a little room for slippage. Whether that is the right plan remains to be seen, there is one sure truth among all the lies — all three nominees feel like this is a win-or-go-home scenario.

Devens goes to work, chatting it up in a bid to distract his fellow houseguests. For her part, Melody is trying to stand still while ignoring the pressure and the pain. Barrett, meanwhile, is trying to keep his needle straight and comfortable. Yash is under the weather, so he is struggling. In fact, he thinks he is hallucinating. But in something of a surprising result, it’s Dee who becomes the first competitor eliminated.

The other five competitors hang tough for another couple of hours, with various aches setting in for everyone, but the next competitor to drop at just under six hours is Melody, who is emotional at the prospect of another loss. With just the Dapper Dans remaining (remember that early alliance?), Drew wants to know what happened to them. But Devens admits that wasn’t a real alliance, and now none of them trust each other anyway. But Devens does turn it on Drew a little bit by bringing up the latest example of Drew and Melody’s flirtmance. But Drew puts all questions to bed — he’s here for himself, and there is no way he would use the Power of Veto on Melody if he won it.

But Devens may have gotten just a hair too cute, becoming the next houseguest to drop after attempting to crouch. Age is just a number … until you’re the oldest competitor in the Pressure Cooker. That leaves Yash, Drew and Barrett. Believe it or not, Drew pitches the three of them doing something together. Yash isn’t biting, noting how many times Drew has done him wrong. Yash says Drew is too messy and admits that Drew is who he wants to go home. During all of this, Barrett stays quiet, basically conceding that his only shot is to keep going and win the competition.

Of the three remaining competitors, Drew seems to be the most comfortable. In fact, he feels so comfortable that he continues his efforts to distract Yash and Barrett. I gotta be honest — it would get under my skin for sure. Somehow, they keep going as the 13-hour mark approaches, but Barrett is feeling it. In addition to the rigors of the competition, Barrett is a Have-Not to boot. So it’s not surprising when he is the next competitor that begins to falter. Barrett is hunched over in what looks to be a very uncomfortable position, and it’s only a matter of time before he drops.

That brings us down to Big Brother’s grudge match of the century: Yash vs. Drew.

Let’s make a deal

Throughout the episode, Yash made a few things clear:

He hates Drew
He wants Drew out of the house for every reason under the sun

Now Yash has the chance to get one step closer to evicting the man he called a “slimeball” earlier in the episode. But Yash is struggling big time and that opens the door for an unlikely agreement. Drew makes his pitch, and beyond promising to be a shield, Drew pitches a deal on his cousin Matthew’s life that he won’t come after Yash — as a nominee or a renom. And Drew takes it a step further, promising that when he comes off the block he’ll vote how Yash wants.

Yash reminds Drew of how wishy-washy and what a fraud he’s been. For all Yash knows, Matthew isn’t real (spoiler alert: he’s not). Yash doesn’t just want to give Drew this veto, and amid all of this the houseguests watching (but not hearing) think they’re actually arguing. Melody is torn, as she cares about Drew but doesn’t necessarily want him to win in this situation. This actually kind of pisses off Devens, which is interesting.

Trusting Drew is hard for Yash, but he’s actually considering this deal. Drew says he has no one and he won’t go crawling back to the Icons (which Yash doesn’t really buy). Yash isn’t buying the pitch necessarily, but he doesn’t want to think emotionally and actually sees an opportunity. Yash wants safety in the next HOH and wants Drew to promise he will vote to keep Taylor.

Yash isn’t convinced, but once Drew is willing to put it on his sister Natalie’s life, that is more enticing. That makes the deal more real to Yash … and Drew. So, we have a deal. But they agree to keep the deal a secret, and to keep up appearances, Yash waits a few minutes before he drops.

At 13 hours, 6 minutes and 21 seconds, Yash drops and Drew has “won” the Pressure Cooker and the Power of Veto.

Throwing a competition goes against every bone in Yash’s body, but he feels this deal was too good to pass up. As Yash reminds us, the Big Brother motto is “expect the unexpected.”

Drew and Yash keep their deal under wraps

The next day, Yash admits Drew tried to make a deal … but doesn’t admit that he took it. He isn’t even willing to tell Taylor about what really happened. That doesn’t mean he won’t run Drew down to the other houseguests. That includes Melody, who says that if she leaves before Drew she’s going to be pissed off.

Meanwhile, Devens probes Drew asking what Drew and Yash were talking about. But like Yash, Drew isn’t spilling the beans. In fact, in a moment of growth he admits that running to the Icons with all his information hasn’t worked and thus he’s not going to reveal the deal either. In a fatherly moment (with a little bit of game strategy as well), Devens tells Drew about how unexcited Melody was for Drew. As Drew’s Big Brother dad, Devens wants Drew to have his eyes wide open and thinks Melody isn’t treating Drew with the love and respect he deserves. Drew continues to defend Melody a bit, but admits that he has mixed feelings. He sees why she would want nominations to stay the same, but doesn’t she want him to be safe?

And more to the point, if Melody wanted Drew to use this veto on her this isn’t the way to go about it.

Just say no

After Drew picks Melody, Barrett and Devens to watch Focker-In-Law in what he describes as something of a going away party (and an opportunity to keep everyone thinking he and Yash are mortal enemies), Melody goes to work trying to get Drew to use the Power of Veto on her.

She tries from a variety of different angles to get what she wants, including possibly withholding friendship outside of the game, but as Drew points out, he stood for over 13 HOURS to earn this Veto. And she was rooting against him!

So, it should come as no surprise when Drew decides to use the Power of Veto on himself. It’s also no surprise when Yash puts Taylor up as the replacement nominee, as that is literally the only choice he has thanks to the BB Bribe. And with that, the Veto meeting is adjourned and we’re on our way to a double eviction on Thursday, with a week’s worth of gameplay in a single episode. Strap in everybody.
