Big Brother Power Rankings: Yash Takes No. 1 After Week 8

We’ve reached the jury phase of Big Brother Season 28, and the power structure may finally be shifting.

Haley was eliminated during the season’s medieval twist before LaLa was evicted Thursday by a 4-2 vote. Among the eight remaining houseguests, cracks are beginning to form in the Icons’ foundation—and a player outside the veteran alliance has taken over the No. 1 spot.

Notable Rankings

Yash made moves to solidify his resume this week, adding another comp win and showing how far he’s come since the beginning of the season. Meanwhile, last week’s No. 1 Devens almost made a monumental unforced error that could have sent him to jury house, while Dee continues to flirt with danger out of a sense of paranoia. And Barrett is activated and setting his sights on the Icons … without them even realizing it.

For the first time this season, it feels like the Icons are teetering on the precipice of danger. Can they back away from the edge, or will they fall off the cliff? Or can someone push them off? We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, check out my three most notable rankings for this week.

1. Yash (+1)

No player has made greater strides in this game than Yash. From being completely clueless in the beginning to now being able to impose his will without even being in power, Yash has picked up this game incredibly quickly and now could be the player to beat. If you had told me this at the beginning of the season, I would have said you were insane. But here we are.

Yash has to be the biggest comp threat left in the house at this point. He almost was successful in throwing the HOH comp to Melody and then he did win the Power of Veto to take himself off the block, with Devens taking his place. It feels like he can win any comp he wants at this point, and that can’t be discounted as the numbers in the house continue to dwindle.

The biggest problem for Yash at this point is the BB Bribe deal he made with Dee to protect all three Icons. It has made it so that Yash really can’t win HOH, because if he does he’ll have to nominate allies like Taylor, Melody or Barrett and get unnecessary blood on his hands. However, that doesn’t mean he is without influence. This week Yash did everything in his power to put the Icons in danger, even as he can’t nominate any of them himself. Even after Drew won HOH, Yash did a decent job of sowing seeds of discord in his mind toward the Icons, specifically Dee. And perhaps even more interestingly, Yash’s growing skills in the game have caught Dee’s attention, and now she, of all people, wants to secretly work with Yash. Couple that with a sense that the Icons don’t want to take a shot at Yash because of the protection he provides them, and Yash is in a pretty good spot.

I don’t always agree with what he says or does — especially when it comes to his haircut — but there is no denying that if we were handing out a Most Improved Player award for Big Brother Season 28, it would be Yash in a landslide. And that improvement may lead to him winning the only award that really matters — the title of Big Brother Season 28 winner.

2. Barrett (+5)

People rightfully questioned whether Barrett would remain anti-Icon after last week or if he would be coerced back into being a number for the vets, especially Dee. Well, it sure seems like he is done being their lap dog. And even better, it appears like they still have no clue that he has fully turned on the Crossovers.

Unfortunately for Barrett, he hasn’t been able to follow through on his plans as Drew and Devens saved themselves with the BB Blockbuster in consecutive weeks. But, finally waking up and moving out from under the shadow of the Icons likely gives Barrett the best path to make an impact moving forward. I still don’t know that he can win the game, but I think he has a better chance going against the Icons than continuing to serve as their lap dog, like Drew has been.

At the very least, Barrett can look back and say he was able to play the game how he wanted to play it and not fully in the Icons’ best interests (at least from this point forward). Can Drew say the same? That difference was clearest during the medieval twist. Barrett went against the Icons by sending Yash to face Haley in the final round, while Drew fell in line and protected Angela instead of his preferred choice, Melody.

As Barrett said this week, it’s better to go out earlier playing your own game than to play someone else’s and still not win.

4. Devens (-3)

Last week I had Devens at No. 1 in the power rankings. But this was an up-and-down week for the two-time Survivor player.

He started the week safe, thanks to Dee in the medieval twist, and looked to be in good shape with Drew as HOH. But then Devens made the inexplicable move to volunteer to become the replacement nominee when Yash won the Power of Veto. Not only should you never volunteer to go up on the block as a replacement nominee, but Devens had such an epically bad read on his chances to stay that even the MLB IG account felt compelled to dunk on him.

To his credit, Devens did win the BB Blockbuster to take himself off the block and avoid disaster. It also gives him another line for his resume. But even in victory, he may have opened up Pandora’s box with Dee, as she now appears to be at odds with Devens. And that spells danger.
