Jake Knapp
After finishing a solid T31st in his first attempt at Detroit Golf Club two years ago, Knapp nearly won at the Donald Ross design last season. The smooth-swinging 32-year-old finished T4th and was just one stroke short of making the three-man playoff that was won by Aldrich Potgieter.
Knapp caught fire in the second round that week, shooting a course-record 61 at Detroit Golf Club. The UCLA product gained 1.9 strokes per round at the venue, which is the eighth-best average in this field.
Knapp was the 98th-ranked player in the world at the time, and he now returns to Detroit Golf Club as the 47th-ranked player. Knapp has had an excellent season in 2026, and he has been close to winning his second PGA TOUR title, finishing inside the top-10 five times.
A hand injury in May cost Knapp about two months, and he missed three of his first four cuts after returning. However, Knapp finally looked healthy again this past week at the 3M Open. He finished T13th at TPC Twin Cities and ended the tournament with a bang, carding an 8-under 62, which was the lowest score of the final round.
Outside of around the greens, Knapp gained strokes in every major category at TPC Twin Cities, including 7.3 strokes on approach, which was the third-best for the event. Knapp ranks 15th in SG APP this season, which bodes very well for Detroit Golf Club, as three of the last four winners at this course have finished the event top-six in SG APP.
To pair with his terrific ball striking, Knapp has been elite with his putter, ranking fourth in SGP. With both his irons and flat stick clicking this season, Knapp ranks fifth in birdie-or-better percentage.
The 34-year-old can score with the best of them, and Knapp has a great chance to contend at Detroit Golf Club for the second year in a row. Knapp carries +3200 odds to win the Rocket Classic on DraftKings Sportsbook, which are the 11th-best odds in the field.
