Patrick Cantlay
Cantlay has quietly been playing terrific golf. The 34-year-old has made six cuts in a row and four of these finishes have been top-15 results. Cantlay finished T12th at the Masters, T8th at the RBC Heritage and T10th at the Truist Championship during this stretch, all of which featured world-class fields competing for a huge purse, which will be the case again this week at the Memorial, which is the seventh Signature Event of the season.
Cantlay has shot under par in eight of his last 12 rounds and his irons have been excellent, with him gaining strokes on approach at five consecutive tournaments. Cantlay also ranks top-20 in both SG ARG and par four performance this season, setting him up well for his return to Muirfield Village this week. Three of the last five winners at this venue have finished the event top-five in both SG ARG and par four performance.
Cantlay absolutely loves Muirfield Village. The veteran won at this par 72 in 2019 and 2021, which is two of his four top-five finishes at the venue. Cantlay also finished T12th Muirfield Village a year ago. The former UCLA Bruin has shot as low as an 8-under 64 at the track and Cantlay ranks second only to two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler in strokes gained per round at Muirfield Village in this field.
Cantlay’s prowess for Muirfield Village is mostly attributed to this course featuring bentgrass greens and being designed by Jack Nicklaus. Among Cantlay’s eight wins on the PGA TOUR, six have come at tracks with bentgrass greens and three have come at courses designed by Nicklaus. In this field, Cantlay ranks second in strokes gained per round at Nicklaus courses and fifth in strokes gained per round at venues with bentgrass putting surfaces.
The last time Cantlay competed at a Nicklaus design was at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course for the first round of the American Express in January and Cantlay flourished with a 9-under 63. This is his lowest score of the season and a true testament to Cantlay’s love for Nicklaus courses.
Cantlay should secure a big payday at the Memorial with another high finish at Muirfield Village this week and this is unquestionably the best event of the season to use him at for one and done pools. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Cantlay presents the ninth-best odds to win the Memorial at +2800.
