Justin Rose

I’m pinch-hitting this week for Alex Hunter, who had a solid pick last week in Maverick McNealy at the WM Phoenix Open. Without a cut this week, there’s a little less risk in going off the board with a wild pick, but I’m staying pretty mainstream and going with veteran Justin Rose.

Rose won’t be coming in any hotter to any event after his performance two weeks ago at Torrey Pines. After missing the cut at The American Express, Rose dominated the Farmers Insurance Open from wire-to-wire, winning by seven strokes. He stayed well clear of the field after a scorching 62-65 to start the week and ultimately set the 72-hole scoring record at the event by one stroke at -23 (265).

His exceptional iron play fueled the dominant effort. He ranked second in Strokes Gained: Approach and first in GIR%. Iron play is key at Pebble Beach as well, which is the epitome of a second-shot course that plays as less-than-driver in most conditions. If the weather does get a little squirrelly, which is possible, the veteran Englishman should be well-equipped to deal with blustery conditions.

Rose has a strong course history at Pebble Beach. He led the 2019 U.S. Open at this venue after the first round and finished T3 behind Gary Woodland. He won this tournament in 2023, finished T11 in 2024, and finished T3 last year. Ten of his last 11 rounds have been under 70 at this event, and he could contend with the big names once again if his iron play carries over to this week.

With his course history and dominant form two weeks ago, this feels like the best place to use Rose this season for one-and-done contests. There likely won’t be a better spot for him this season.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Rose has the seventh-shortest odds to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at +2800.
