Jackson Suber
Jackson Suber missed the cut in his 3M Open debut a year ago, but he is a far better golfer nowadays, sitting 54 spots higher in the world golf rankings at a career-best No. 104. Suber has only missed one cut in his last eight starts and he has finished inside the top-30 six times during this stretch. Suber just finished T-28 at Royal Birkdale for his Open Championship debut last week and a 5-under 65 on Thursday put him atop the leaderboard following the first round.
The 26-year-old faltered as the major progressed, but seeing him finish this high in his first attempt at the Open Championship was impressive, nonetheless. On top of this performance at Royal Birkdale, Suber has flashed big upside recently, carding top-six finishes at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in May, the RBC Canadian Open in June and at the John Deere Classic earlier this month.
All of these events have something in common. They are played at TPC courses, just like this week’s 3M Open, which is played at TPC Twin Cities. Among this field, Suber ranks third in strokes gained per round at TPC courses this season.
Another thing that bodes well for Suber’s chances at TPC Twin Cities is that this venue is located in the Midwest in Blaine, Minnesota. Suber has finished in the top-six in 2-of-4 starts at venues in the Midwest and he ranks second in this field in strokes gained per round at Midwest courses, trailing only Scottie Scheffler.
Furthermore, Suber ranks 20th in SG APP this season and each of the last four winners at TPC Twin Cities have finished the event top-eight in SG APP. Suber definitely has a chance to contend in his second attempt at TPC Twin Cities and he shouldn’t be highly owned in one and done pools, as most will likely gravitate towards the defending champion in Kurt Kitayama.
