Who Was Evicted on Big Brother Tonight? Season 28 Week 9 Results

The Icons have dominated Big Brother Season 28, but for the first time this season all three went into the live eviction vote in danger, with one guaranteed to go home.

How did we get here? Well, after winning Head of Household, Barrett finally got to take his shot, and put Dee, Devens and Angela on the block. Then Yash won the Power of Veto and declined to use it, locking in the nominations.

One of the Icons is going to jury. But first, the three nominees had one last lifeline: the BB Blockbuster. Here’s what happened during Thursday’s live eviction episode of Big Brother Season 28.

Big Brother Season 28 Week 9 Results

Sunday’s episode began Week 9 with a difficult ball-rolling competition that saw Barrett outlast the field and become the new Head of Household.

Barrett has become increasingly anti-Icon since Mallory’s eviction during Dee’s HOH, but the BB Blockbuster had repeatedly thwarted his attempts to strike at the alliance.

Now that he held the power, Barrett finally had the opportunity to show his cards—and show them he did. He took a big swing by nominating all three Icons for eviction. That’s right: Dee, Devens and Angela are all on the block together.

Making matters worse for the Icons, Barrett selected Yash to play in the Veto comp, which he proceeded to win. Yash’s decision not to use the Power of Veto locked all three Icons on the block, ensuring that an Icon would be evicted this week.

Then on Thursday, Devens won the puzzle-based BB Blockbuster, leaving Dee and Angela on the block. In the end, Angela was evicted and became the second jury member of Big Brother Season 28.

Crossovers in the crosshairs

In the aftermath of keeping the nominations the same, Yash says he wants to see Devens and then Dee go home. Angela feels like she is safe, and is hoping that Dee wins the Blockbuster. Meanwhile, Devens isn’t feeling great, knowing that he likely has to win the Blockbuster in order to stay in the game. And if Barrett had his choice? He’d like Devens to go, as he sees him as the biggest threat. But if Angela goes home? It’s a waste of his HOH.

After the Icons’ performance at the Veto ceremony, Melody is annoyed because she feels like Drew sat and did nothing as he was being called out in the meeting. She wants him to grow a backbone and stand up for himself and for his allies. But Drew reveals in the diary room that he actually suggested that Devens say he’s targeting him and is hoping not to burn that relationship as he doesn’t feel like they would put him up. But it may have done damage with the newbies, as it only reinforced Taylor’s belief that Drew is Devens’ lapdog.

In the meantime, Drew tries to do some damage control, assuring the Icons that he didn’t know what Barrett was going to do. But Dee, as usual, reads Drew’s effort to smooth things over as disloyalty. It’s frustrating to watch because, at this point, there truly doesn’t seem to be anything Drew can do to earn Dee’s trust.

And yet, Drew remains fiercely loyal to the Icons, to the extreme detriment of his own game. It’s a lost cause on both sides, especially because Dee believes her path to staying in the house is promising to target Drew and Barrett.

Whipping the vote

Dee gets to work, attempting to sow seeds of doubt in Melody about Drew and Barrett. Melody is wary about the closeness between Drew, Barrett and Devens, and Dee plays right into this. Melody fears getting cut in the end by her FAP allies, so she wants to vote out Devens. But if it’s not him on the block, she’s still leaning toward voting out Dee.

Despite being so frustrated with Drew, Melody still considers him her best friend in the house and wants to hang out with him. Their showmance has been a topic all season long, and Angela is taking note of their … closeness … in the house. She says one of these days she’s going to catch them kissing. Melody and Drew both aren’t feeling Angela’s attempt at matchmaking, no matter what she thinks they may not have been doing in the pool.

Melody is worried about Angela saying this all out loud is putting a target on their backs to the point where now she is considering voting Angela out. At the same time, Dee begins to campaign to Yash and Taylor, undermining Devens and Angela. She pitches the story to Yash that she’s ready to go to war and she’s ready to use her comp skills to work for him and Taylor and help take out Drew and Barrett. Dee makes a persuasive case and Yash believes she truly wants to target Drew and Barrett … and it has him reconsidering how he wants to use his vote this week.

She then begins to work Taylor with the same idea that she would be solely targeting Barrett and Drew. To further sweeten the pot, she argues that sitting next to either Yash or Taylor, Dee is going home. Taylor sees the potential in keeping Dee to help win comps and fight off either the trio of Drew-Barrett-Melody or the trio of Drew-Barrett-Devens. Once again, Dee has made a persuasive argument and has Taylor thinking.

Devens also promises to Yash that if he stays he will be targeting the trio of Drew-Barrett-Melody. He doesn’t want to pitch directly against Dee, but wants to position himself as the less scary version of the Icon who would be targeting Drew-Barrett-Melody. He also makes his pitch to Taylor, who once again can see pros and cons of keeping him. But she wants to get with Yash to go over it all.

Yash has actually come around to the idea that Dee and Devens could be shields for them, and the vote isn’t as simple as he originally thought it would be. Yash is thinking ahead to the numbers game, especially in a scenario where either Drew or Melody wins HOH next week.

Putting together the pieces of the puzzle

That brings us to the pivotal BB Blockbuster, “Reinvent The Wheel,” which host Julie Chen Moonves previewed earlier on Thursday.

I told Jeff Pratt, one of our resident Survivor experts (make sure to be on the lookout for all our Survivor Season 51 content coming soon), that I felt like this puzzle-based BB Blockbuster felt very Survivor-coded. He agreed. With that in mind, would one of the two Survivor alums come out on top and take themselves off the block? In a word, YES!

After a slow start for all three Icons, Dee began attempting to assemble the puzzle on the ground first. Meanwhile, Devens began putting the pieces together, making serious progress. Sure enough, he built momentum that couldn’t be topped, and picked up his second straight Blockbuster win, shouting out his kids and taking himself off the block to extend his stay in the Big Brother house for at least another week.

Playing the numbers game

With Devens off the block, that left Dee and Angela up for eviction. Dee is the more dangerous player, but does that make her an effective shield? And are Yash and Taylor really buying the pitch she sold them this week, and continued to make after the reveal that Devens won the Blockbuster? Was playing up the idea that the numbers game could be bad for Yash and Taylor a winning move for Dee? Or did Angela’s impassioned plea to stay move the houseguests?

Drew got a chance to get some revenge on Dee for putting him up on the block twice and votes to evict the Survivor alum, as does his close ally Melody. This makes sense since they are the most likely to want to protect Barrett’s HOH from being seen as a failure.

Devens stays loyal to Dee despite her being willing to cast him aside last week, voting to evict Angela. Taylor follows suit (while also asking her mom to pay her car insurance). And the decided vote comes down to Yash, who votes to evict Angela.

Dee’s pitch worked. Somehow, despite talking all season about sending an Icon packing, Yash and Taylor kept the two strongest players in the house when they had a chance to take one out. Dee survived and Angela is tearfully evicted in the closest vote of the season. Yash and Taylor may look back on this vote as a major mistake. Only time will tell.
