There is something fitting about Backrooms (the movie) arriving in theaters as one more artifact unearthed from the Backrooms (the world). The idea began with a stray image of an empty yellow room and an anonymous warning about falling out of reality. It accumulated through creepypasta, wikis, video games, Discord excavation and Kane Parsons’ astonishing […]

Euphoria goes long for its finale. Episode 8, “In God We Trust,” airs Sunday, May 31 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max, and the episode reportedly runs 93 minutes—basically a movie-length ending for a season that has already blown past its old high-school shape. HBO has framed it as the Season 3 finale, […]

The Cubs and Pirates have spent two nights turning this series into a study in whiplash. Pittsburgh opened with a 12-1 beating behind 15 hits and a five-run first inning, then Chicago answered with a 10-4 win that snapped a 10-game skid and briefly changed the temperature around its offense. Chris Sale’s return to Fenway Park gives Thursday’s Braves-Red Sox matchup a little theater, but the teams are beyond nostalgia. Atlanta arrives at 37-19 with one of the National League’s best records and a 20-9 road mark, while Boston sits at 23-31 and is still trying to drag a miserable home start back toward respectability. […]

The Chicago White Sox have turned this series into a statement swing. At 28-27, they enter Thursday’s finale against the 27-29 Minnesota Twins with a chance to take three of four at Rate Field, one day after an 18-hit, 15-2 avalanche that made the lineup look as deep as it has all season. Minnesota still […]

Tomorrow night, Hacks takes its final bow. The Season 5 finale—and the series finale—drops Thursday, May 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO Max, closing the book on Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels after five seasons of insults, betrayals, hotel rooms, apology tours, late-night humiliations, Vegas grandeur and the strange, bruising intimacy of two people […]

The late game at Dodger Stadium comes with a postcard storyline and a very lopsided baseball shape underneath it. Los Angeles is 35-20, riding four straight wins and an 11-2 surge, with Shohei Ohtani and Tomoyuki Sugano giving the night its rare Japanese-born starting-pitcher spotlight. Colorado arrives at 20-36, having dropped four straight and seven […]

Cincinnati has turned the first two nights in Queens into the same blunt lesson. The Reds are 29-25, have won three straight and five of six, and they have beaten the Mets by identical 7-2 scores to open this series. That is 14 runs on 24 hits in two games, folded into a six-game stretch […]
