Lucky Episode 4 premieres Wednesday, July 29, on Apple TV. “Too Close to See It” carries Lucky’s pursuit into the season’s midpoint, with Cary and the stolen money finally within reach. Apple’s synopsis promises a confrontation over his betrayal before an approaching threat forces old grievances aside.
The timing feels right for a series gathering confidence with every escape. Lucky began as a stylish fugitive thriller, then found greater life inside its damaged families and shifting loyalties. The chases remain brisk, the cons keep improving, and Anya Taylor-Joy appears completely at home inside Lucky Armstrong’s dangerous improvisations.
Taylor-Joy has been thriving whenever Lucky must control a room while her private panic threatens to surface. Her disguises rarely require elaborate makeup or theatrical accents. A change in posture, rhythm, or eye contact creates an entirely different woman. Episode 3 gave her several terrific opportunities to disappear in plain sight.
Spoilers follow for Lucky Episode 3.
Lucky episode 4 preview
“Read the Room” followed Lucky’s search for Cary and the stolen casino money. After escaping Dutch at the gas station, she remained hidden inside his truck and was carried back to Priscilla’s property.
Lucky slipped into a barn and watched Dutch execute Nolan, a document forger connected to Cary. She escaped with information that eventually led her to another forger and the false identity Cary had adopted. Along the way, Lucky posed as a nanny at a wealthy family’s birthday party, stealing clothes, credit cards, and a car. The con worked because nobody looked closely at the hired help. Lucky then blackmailed a married property manager into revealing Cary’s beach-house location. She found the missing money moments before Cary walked through the door. Agent Rand also followed Lucky’s trail toward Dutch and Priscilla. She remains behind, but the distance continues to shrink.
Episode 4 should begin with Lucky finally confronting Cary. He abandoned her after the Las Vegas robbery, disappeared under another name, and kept more than $9 million. The largest question concerns why he left. Cary’s betrayal appeared carefully planned, yet his expensive car and conspicuous beach house made him surprisingly easy to find. Lucky may not receive much time for answers. Priscilla knows where Cary’s trail leads, Wayne Whittaker wants his money returned, and Rand is closing in from another direction.
