The aftershocks of last Thursday’s blindside are still being felt as we go into one of the most important Power of Veto competitions in Big Brother Season 28.
Haley and Chuk — blindsided by the Icons last week and abandoned by their ally Kamu, who is now calling himself a “free agent” — are in serious danger. The house has turned against them, they’re isolated and they’re both up on the block. I think it’s fair to say that if either remains on the block on Thursday night, they’re going home. Would either houseguest — or an ally — be able to win the Power of Veto and take them off the block? Or is at least one member of the Red Corner still on a collision course for the door?

Big Brother Season 28 Week 5 Results
Sunday’s episode began Week 5 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. For the first time this season, a member of the Toolshed DID NOT win the HOH comp, with LaTrice earning a shocking win over Kamu in the legendary Wall comp to become the new Head of Household.
This is the first time many of the members of the now seemingly-dead Toolshed alliance will have to fight from behind, so to speak, with the Red Corner in particular in serious jeopardy, as LaLa has nominated both Haley and Chuk.
Kamu won this week’s Power of Veto competition, but has elected to not use it, marking the first time this season that has occurred. That leaves his two former close allies Haley and Chuk on the block and in danger heading into the BB Blockbuster and live eviction vote on Thursday.

Chuk swims against the tide in conversation with LaLa
We pick back up after the veto meeting, and Barrett doesn’t understand LaLa telling him to pick a side … when they just voted on the same side. Meanwhile, Haley is emotional feeling like she’s been getting dragged since Day 1 and Chuk feels blindsided and like LaLa is dazed and confused.
Haley and Chuk throw themselves a pity party in the backyard and try running down LaLa to Taylor, who is the absolute wrong person to be doing this with. Especially as she admits she had a hand in humbling the Red Corner duo. She also insinuates that Kamu could be a backdoor target, which makes Haley concerned that the whole trio could be on the block together. Of course, this is a lie — Kamu is on board with LaLa’s plan to make Haley this week’s target. Kamu is thrilled that he avoided the block and instead influenced LaLa’s noms. He’s looking for new allies, and LaLa could be one of them.
Haley may be deep in her feelings, but she’s getting no grace from Mallory and Melody or the Icons. Dee admits that the Toolshed has lost its usefulness, and she’s got plenty of fail safes to protect her game moving forward between all her alliances and the powers Dee and Devens have.
However, Angela is getting in her own head again — never a good thing — about lying to people. She’s not Dee or Devens and is really struggling with lying to people. She admits that she’s freaking out.
Getting back to Chuk, he just wants to know why he’s on the block. LaLa tells him that he is tight like a knot with Haley and she’s dragging him down. Chuk doesn’t understand this analysis as he’s been on the biggest naval ship while LaLa’s been on an inflatable tube. He tells her that people think she doesn’t know to play the game, but that is what LaLa says she wanted people to believe. It’s all been her plan, and she needed Chuk on the block to prevent him from getting the Power of Veto and taking down Haley.
Frankly, it’s wild for Chuk — the absolute LEAST active member of the Toolshed — to act like he’s been running anything. After last week’s blindside and now being on the block, he’s in no position to tell LaLa anything about how to play her game. He may be “disgusted” by her game (which is also a wild overreaction), but LaLa is right when she tells Chuk that Haley is dragging him down. He may be too far gone to heed the warning, however.
Haley can’t stop, won’t stop investigating blindside
After seeing the adventures of Melody and Mallory, aka Adam and Eve, Devens finally gets Dee to admit that she won a power last week. Dee admits that every time she looks in Devens’ eyes she sees his family and she realizes he’s never going to tell anyone, so she just tells him about the BB Bribe.
Devens isn’t the only one interrogating his fellow houseguests. Haley is STILL preoccupied with finding out who is lying about their vote last week. She thinks (for once rightly) that Dee is involved, but she still isn’t tracking that Angela is lying too. And this stresses Angela out because she’s afraid what will happen if Haley finds out from someone other than her that she’s been lying. She doesn’t know how she could deal with the potential loss of her friendship with Haley.
Haley meets with Chuk and Kamu and suggests that in order to protect Kamu from being a renom one of them has to win the Power of Veto …. and not use it. Make it make sense. Haley is right when she says this plan sounds crazy. She’s going to put her game at risk to save … someone who helped make her this week’s target. Am I taking crazy pills, here?
LaLa thinks the time has come for Dee to come clean to Kamu, which Dee thinks — along with the fact that he’s not on the block — indicates he’s made a deal with LaLa and Taylor. They think he’ll understand. Meanwhile, Angela continues to become more and more stressed about the lie. At this point she’s a ticking time bomb getting ready to explode.
The truth comes to light
It was only a matter of time before Angela cracked — she did spend a week in the egg costume, after all. Sure enough she did and it went about as bad as possible.
It starts when Angela makes the decision she has to come clean to Haley. She admits she voted the wrong way and she had no reason for it. She just wants to clear her conscience. Haley is shocked, and never thought in a million years that Angela would do that to her. Haley doesn’t know how they can move forward from this and she just wants some space from Angela.
Of course, Haley goes right to Chuk to reveal Angela’s lie. He’s shocked and Haley is angry that Angela betrayed her and then shouted out her family. She’s done with everyone — the only people she trusts are Kamu and Chuk. Haley comes back to Angela and calls Angela out for her betrayal. She feels like Angela ruined their alliance and their game. She claims she didn’t tell Chuk, but Angela isn’t buying it. Once Haley leaves, of course Chuk comes in tells Angela that he’s disappointed … revealing that Haley lied about not telling Chuk. Angela tries apologizing to him, but he basically brushes it off noting that he’s not buying the crocodile tears.
Angela’s apology tour continues with Kamu, who is more receptive to her attempts to make amends. He’s not mad and he actually says it’s great for him as it vindicates him and exonerates him — revealing it’s not him that can’t be trusted, it’s Angela! Later, Dee reveals that she also lied, but says it was because of Chuk and Haley. Kamu gets it, since he’s been grouped with Haley and Chuk since Day 1, even though he’s felt like he’s been at the bottom of that alliance. He takes this as a sign that he needs to create some distance from them.
Oh, and Dee reveals to Kamu that she won a power. Of course, she doesn’t tell him the whole truth (she lies that she hasn’t told anyone else), but she thinks the benefit of having him on her side is greater than the threat of him revealing this info. And it works, as Kamu says it goes a long way toward building trust and makes the blindside water under the bridge. Dee truly is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
Mount St. Angela erupts
Tensions are rising a bit in the gym, as Haley tries to shift some blame on Angela by stretching the truth and saying Angela told her that Dee is lying. That leads to a pow wow in the gym with Angela, Dee, Haley, Chuk and Yash. Both Dee and Kamu are happy to let the Red Corner continue to spiral. But they didn’t realize how it would send Angela off the rails.
And boy did Angela go off the rails. Things started off with Angela relatively calm, if emotional, but she really lost it when Chuk reveals that Haley claims that Angela told her that Dee was behind the vote flip. Then all hell broke loose, ending with LaLa leading Angela out of the gym in tears.
It’s not quite over yet, however, as LaLa confronts Haley about apologizing to Angela. LaLa says it was really ugly, and despite trying to keep things “respectful” it’s clear that LaLa is over Haley at this point. She says it’s sad that a pretty girl is so mean and passive-aggressive with her “friends.” LaLa sends Haley “to her room” and is left praying that Haley doesn’t win the Power of Veto because she needs her out of this house.
Finding the groove
When it comes time to pick Veto competitors, Chuk’s name is pulled and he chooses his “ally” Kamu. Kamu is stoked, but makes it clear he’s not going to be using the Veto if he wins it as the house has turned on Haley and Chuk. Meanwhile, the other competitor picked is Dee, which is more bad news for the Red Corner, even if they don’t realize it.
For the Veto comp, the houseguests are sent back to August 13, 1977 where they find a dance floor where they will have to figure out the pattern on their segment that will get them from the start to the finish using only green tiles. If you step on a red tile you have to start all over again, so remembering your past mistakes is key to not repeating them. As the old saying goes, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Kamu boogies his way past Chuk in the first round, while Haley gets a measure of revenge by defeating LaLa. Meanwhile, Dee may love to dance, but she feels like she has two left feet in this competition. Dee is known as a comp beast on Survivor, but she still hasn’t found her footing in Big Brother comps. That continues here as Barrett dances his way into the next round, which is a double-edged sword as he moved on but did so at the expense of the only other competitor who would have potentially taken him off the block.
Kamu had the fastest time in the first round, earning him a bye. That leaves Barrett to square off with Haley. Barrett is feeling the pressure, as he knows the house wants him to beat Haley. For her part, Haley knows everything is on the line for her here. After all, as Taylor reminds us — Haley IS the target this week.
In the end, to everyone’s relief, Barrett wins and it’s down to him vs. Kamu. The MMA fighter says the strategy is simple — copy and paste what he did in the first round. Haley is rooting for Kamu, thinking he’ll potentially use the Power of Veto on either her or Chuk, and sure enough Kamu’s fancy feet edge out Barrett to earn the Power of Veto, which as he points out is his second memory comp win.
Haley thinks Kamu’s win is a sign the BB gods are turning back in their direction, offering the opportunity for the Red Corner to regroup and rebuild their numbers. However, Kamu immediately confirms with LaLa that the plan is to keep the nominations the same. He thinks that’s the best path forward for his game, with the idea being that the house needs to see him move differently.
That being said, Kamu wants to have an explanation for Chuk and Haley as to why he’s not using the Power of Veto. After all, he’s been a part of their alliance for the entire season (and, if nothing else, Kamu has been consistent in wanting to have a cover story for every action he’s been a part of). He throws out a story that he’s afraid if he uses it someone like Devens could be targeted as a renom. In the end, Kamu is about to show he’s not with the Red Corner anymore and he agrees that no matter what, one of his former allies has to go.
With friends like this, who needs enemies
Kamu does have to have the tough conversation with Haley and Chuk where he says he doesn’t know what he’s going to do with the Power of Veto. Here, he deploys the cover story he worked out in the HOH room, but Haley and Chuk try to press Kamu a bit and he is still being vague to the point where it basically becomes clear that he’s not using it. She gets emotional, making it clear that she thinks Kamu should use the Power of Veto on her. They’re the Avengers, for crying out loud (big eye roll). Chuk, for his part, says this should be an easy decision and if Kamu doesn’t use it and he survives he’s going to cause World War Big Brother.
Well start drawing up those battle plans, Chuk. Because in case you need it spelled out any more clearly — Kamu says in the diary room that he’s ready to distance himself from the Red Corner. He’s NOT USING the Power of Veto! Haley and Chuk … you’re on your own. Maybe it is looking more and more like a sinking ship, huh Chuk?
Sure enough, Kamu explains that while he respects everyone on the block, he needs to do what’s best for his game. And that’s to put the Power of Veto back in the box and close the lid. Which also closes the lid on his working relationship with Chuk and Haley, who both promise they’ll find a way off the block and won’t forgive or forget.

LaTrice won HOH on Sunday, breaking a streak of four weeks where a member of the Toolshed alliance took control of the house.

Kamu won the Power of Veto this week. He elected not to use the power this week, marking the first time in Big Brother Season 28 that nominations went unchanged.
