Thursday’s eviction blindside finally gave what was turning into a sleepy season a jolt, shocking the Red Corner and potentially razing the Toolshed.

After four weeks of Toolshed control, it looked like we were heading for a steamroll. However, now with the blindside, at the very least the Red Corner are on their heels and likely feeling the pressure heading into the Wall comp with HOH on the line. Would either Kamu or Chuk pull it together to keep the Red Corner on the tracks, or would a loss only make the crack in the Corner’s foundation grow?

Big Brother Season 28 Week 5 Results

Sunday’s episode began Week 5 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. For the first time this season, a member of the Toolshed DID NOT win the HOH comp, with LaTrice earning a shocking win over Kamu in the legendary Wall comp to become the new Head of Household.

This is the first time many of the members of the now seemingly-dead Toolshed alliance will have to fight from behind, so to speak, with the Red Corner in particular in serious jeopardy, as LaLa has nominated both Haley and Chuk. Will LaLa’s HOH really be able to shift the power in the house? We’ll have to see how this week plays out!

Blinded by the blindside

Obviously, there is fallout from Thursday’s exciting blindside to save both Drew and Melody, making Haley instantly a meme. Her gagged reaction was so good that even the crew on Big Brother: Unlocked had to give their versions of it on Friday night.

Tonight’s episode delves into the details of how the blindside happened and why, with Dee leading the charge. And it worked out even better than she had imagined.

Needless to say, Haley was not happy and an investigation is immediately underway into finding out who broke ranks and voted to evict Lyric over Melody. Chuk is also confused, and rethinking everything when it comes to his alliance. Kamu, for his part, kind of likes the chaos, but he too wants to get to the bottom of the numbers, but one thing is for sure — he thinks the Toolshed is dead and he’s a free agent.

Somehow, in all the chaos the Red Corner appears to be crumbling and the blame is being placed on everyone … but the the culprit sitting in their midst — Dee.

Devens was right when he said on Unlocked that the vibe in the house has changed and we’ve begun Chapter 2 of Big Brother Season 28.

LaLa wins the Wall comp, proving age is just a number

The Red Corner doesn’t have much time to wallow in the aftermath of the blindside, however, as the houseguests are sent back to 1967 for the legendary Wall comp for this week’s battle to be the new head of household.

Haley is counting on Kamu and Chuk to pull out a win after all the chaos of the blindside, but Melody thinks it is imperative to her game for either her, Drew or Mallory to win power as she knows people (*cough* Red Corner *cough*) are mad at her and Drew just for still being there.

The Wall comp goes down in Bluff Creek, California following a sighting of Bigfoot. With Bigfoot lurking around, the only way for the houseguests to ensure their safety is to stay in their “trees.” The last person hanging onto their tree will win “Sasquatch Watch” and be the new HOH.

After the blindside, everyone is feeling like it is imperative they win the Wall comp to grab power and guarantee their safety for this week. Unsurprisingly, Angela is the first houseguest to fall off, but things mostly continue on from there in an expected fashion. But amid all the cold “rain,” slime, and tilting “trees,” we get a major surprise — LaLa actually hangs on and outlasts everyone, including MMA fighter/coach Kamu, to win the wall comp and become HOH.

At 58, LaLa is the oldest Wall comp winner in Big Brother history. It’s truly an iconic, and emotional, moment, one that will definitely become a Big Brother highlight for years to come. The immediate impact, however, is less clear. As Dee says, LaLa is a bit of a wild card and it’s reasonable to think that Taylor is right that she’s going to have outsized influence over LaLa’s HOH reign.

Put it all together, and plenty of houseguests had reason to be worried.

Power or punishment?

As revealed on Big Brother: Unlocked, for the first time this season, a non-Icon has been voted into the BB Time Capsule. Mallory, after weeks of being in danger, has been voted into the BB Time Capsule by America and had a chance to win a power. I predicted in my Power Rankings on Friday that Mallory was probably the most likely candidate to win this vote, as she got a pretty sympathetic edit last week. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out the way Mallory, or probably the fans, would have hoped.

Luckily it was a relatively benign punishment — Mallory would have to spend 48 hours attached to someone as Adam and Eve. Or as it turns out, Eve and Eve, as she chose Melody for her punishment partner.

I would have to assume that depending on this week’s edit, Melody or Drew feel like likely candidates to enter the Time Capsule next given their slow-burn showmance and underdog status. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Welcome to the block

After throwing out names like Devens, Drew and Kamu — and initially leaning toward Drew, Barrett and Kamu — LaLa ultimately settles on putting up two-thirds of the Red Corner on the block. Kamu campaigns with Taylor and LaLa to stay off the block, and convinces both that they should really put up Chuk! In the end, LaLa buys into what Kamu is saying — especially after Kamu tells LaLa that Chuk has talked about putting her on the block — and puts Haley and Chuk on the block together, with Barrett joining them as her pawn. LaLa’s main target for this week is Haley, which is just another indication of just how disastrous her reign as HOH turned out to be.

Can Haley or Chuk — or someone else — pull themselves off the block? Or could the shakeup that started with Thursday’s blindside reverberate even further? We’ll find out on Wednesday, but I think it’s clear that Haley is going to finally find out what a real bad week looks like in the Big Brother house.

Who won HOH this week?

LaTrice won HOH on Sunday, breaking a streak of four weeks where a member of the Toolshed alliance took control of the house.

Who was nominated for eviction this week?

As head of household, LaTrice nominated Haley, Chuk and Barrett for eviction this week. If any of the three win the veto competition, or another player wins and choose to use the power of veto on them, LaTrice will have to select another houseguest as a replacement nominee.
