Big Brother Season 28 has been a one-sided affair through three weeks — the Toolshed has controlled every eviction, every HOH and every major decision. Sunday’s episode determines whether that streak continues or finally breaks.

Here’s everything to know about the Week 4 HOH competition, including the air time, how to watch and what to expect.

What happened last time on Big Brother Season 28?

Jason was evicted by a unanimous 12-0 vote after Kamu’s backdoor plan played out successfully. Mallory won the BB Blockbuster to save herself, but Jason came up just short in the reverse Jenga competition and couldn’t escape the block for a second time.

The more revealing developments happened off the block. Drew and Barrett pitched Devens on keeping Mallory over LaTrice (had the Blockbuster gone differently), arguing it was better for their games. Devens shut it down and somehow talked them into abandoning their own best interests. The conversation exposed just how much influence Devens holds over his junior allies — and how unwilling Drew and Barrett are to actually pull the trigger on flipping, despite plenty of talk about it.

Meanwhile, Devens and Kamu noted that Drew’s strategy of playing both sides was going to backfire at the upcoming vote. Angela and Dee shared those sentiments. Even Devens — previously Drew’s biggest advocate within the Crossovers — is now openly talking about backdooring him.

What to expect on Big Brother tonight

The HOH competition everyone’s been waiting for

Kamu can’t compete this week. But, the Toolshed still has Dee, Devens, Angela, Barrett, Drew, Haley and Chuk available. The key question is this: Can the other side of the house finally seize power?

Mallory has proven she can win competitions (veto in Week 1, BB Blockbuster this week). Lyric won the veto this week in convincing fashion. Melody, LaTrice, Taylor and Yash are all due for a breakout. If anyone from the resistance wins HOH, three weeks of Toolshed dominance could come crashing down in a single night.

Drew and Barrett: flip or fold?

This is the week that defines both of their games. Drew dropped from No. 1 to No. 11 in our power rankings. Barrett fell from No. 7 to No. 12. Both have spent weeks talking about wanting to blow up the Toolshed, disliking their position in the hierarchy, feeling like bottom-rung members being used until discarded. And yet every time the moment comes to actually make a move, they fold.

Devens talked them out of keeping Mallory. In the end it didn’t matter, but they still voted with the house unanimously to evict Jason. They’re still in an alliance with people they really don’t want to work with anymore.

The math is simple: Drew and Barrett flipping to the other side instantly creates a competitive opposition. Without them, the resistance keeps losing numbers every week with no ability to fight back. With them, it becomes a real game. But Drew keeps saying he wants to play Big Brother without actually playing it. At some point, talking about making a move and never making it becomes the same as not having the move in you at all.

Devens’ growing power

Devens sits at No. 1 in the power rankings for good reason. He’s part of the majority alliance, he has elite social relationships with people on both sides of the Toolshed’s internal divide, and he’s holding the Diamond Power of Veto — a six-week power that lets him remove a nominee and name the replacement, overriding the HOH entirely.

Nobody in the house knows for certain that Devens has this power other than Dee, who is keeping it a secret. Angela suspects it but isn’t pushing. Everyone else is guessing. That kind of hidden advantage, combined with Devens’ demonstrated willingness to make big moves (the Rome backdoor) and his ability to talk allies out of positions that threaten his game (the Drew/Barrett conversation this week), makes him the most dangerous player in the house.

Even if the Toolshed loses HOH this week, Devens has a nuclear option in his back pocket. The resistance has to account for a power they don’t even know exists.

The resistance’s last stand

Three evictions in, the non-Toolshed side of the house has lost its two strongest male competitors (Rome and Jason). What remains: Mallory (proven comp beast), Lyric (emerging player), Melody (connected but directionless), LaTrice (coasting), Taylor (laying low) and arguably Yash (finally waking up, but gravitating toward the Toolshed through his new Werewolves alliance with Devens, Dee and Kamu).

Mallory is the engine of whatever opposition exists. She’s the one pitching Barrett to flip. She’s the one winning competitions to stay alive. She’s in the Giggle Girls alliance with Melody and Lyric. If the resistance is going to mount a real challenge, it starts with Mallory winning HOH or convincing Drew and Barrett that their time to flip is now — not next week, not the week after. Now.

Yash’s quiet rise

The most unexpected development of Week 3: Yash moved up six spots in the power rankings by actually starting to play the game. He formed the Werewolves alliance with Devens, Dee and Kamu — putting himself inside the majority for the first time. He’s working on relationships with the women after being called out for only wanting to work with the men.

Yash may be taking Drew’s spot in the power structure. As the Toolshed sours on Drew, they need someone to fill that role — a loyal number who won’t play both sides. Yash could potentially fit that mold. He’s not a strategic threat, he’s not overextended across seven alliances and he’s not flirting with someone on the other side of the house. Sometimes being the simple, reliable option is exactly what the majority needs.

Who is in the best position heading into Week 4?

Devens leads our power rankings at No. 1, followed by Dee and Lyric. The most vulnerable players are Drew (his own alliance wants him out), Barrett (same boat, less social capital), LaTrice (no strategic connections) and Chuk (floating without purpose).
