The Toolshed has been mowing through the competition thus far in Big Brother Season 28, but cracks began to show on Thursday even as the alliance achieved their goal of sacking Rome.
With tension bubbling inside their own alliance, can the Toolshed continue to hold all the power? Or will a new Head of Household competition provide the other side of the house — notably Jason, Mallory and Melody — a chance to take a shot at the trio of reality icons — Dee, Devens and Angela? And will Drew and Barrett get further pushed out of the Toolshed altogether?

Big Brother Season 28 Week 3 Results
Sunday’s episode began Week 3 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. The Toolshed once again grabbed power for the week, with Kamu earning the HOH key.
How will Kamu’s reign compare to that of his allies Dee and Devens? Only time will tell.

Big Brother Season 28 Episode 9 recap
Fallout from the Fall of Rome
Sunday’s episode picks up with Lyric going to work to ensure everyone knows she was NOT the one who voted to keep Rome in the house (see my Thursday recap here). Taylor insists she didn’t come to Big Brother to vote with the house, but she also isn’t about to advertise that she cast the lone vote to keep Rome.
Angela and Devens are feeling pretty good that their backdoor plan worked and Rome is gone, but Devens knows that if someone outside his alliance wins HOH they could be in trouble. Barrett is in his alliance, but wants to win HOH to show he’s not the lapdog of the Toolshed and plans to take a shot at his nominal Red Corner allies.
Drew, on the other hand, isn’t interested in winning HOH. He likes where he’s at with everyone in the house, and doesn’t want any blood on his hands at this point. Mallory wants that smoke, however. While her side of the house has been going through it, the icons and their side have, in her words, been living in Disneyland. Well, in Mallory’s eyes it’s time for the other side of the house to play Big Brother, too.
And just to close out Week 2, Angela is finally freed from her Hard-Boiled prison just in time for the HOH competition. Egg-celent.
Elimination Chamber
The latest stop on Big Brother’s Time Trip takes the houseguests to March 31, 1985, for Wrestlegasm ’85. The houseguests watch the main event and have to answer a series of true or false questions. Get a question wrong and they’re down for the count.

In the end Jessie “The Pretty Boy” Pectacular is victorious over his competition in the ring, and Kamu is victorious over the rest of the house in the HOH competition. The MMA fighter/coach felt right at home watching a fight and laid the smackdown on Yash, Barrett, Lyric and Melody in the final question to keep the power with the Toolshed.
Jason’s side of the house is reeling as despite having the numbers at the end of the HOH competition, it looks like someone on their side is going to be down for the count once again this week.
Heavy is the HOH crown
Kamu feels relief being HOH, but as the famous saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility. He knows he has a lot to think about when it comes to nominations.
Not feeling much relief are Mallory and Jason, who know they could wind up on the block for the second time this season. They’re right to be concerend, as the first names out of Kamu’s mouth are, indeed, Mallory and Jason.
Dee and Angela feel good … but they’re concerned that Drew threw the Rome vote on Thursday. However, with Kamu in control, it doesn’t feel like the ideal week to pitch backdooring Drew. That instinct is right, as Drew and Kamu are together in the Handyman alliance and Drew seems to have sway with Kamu. It’s a good thing that Dee steered Angela toward putting backdooring Drew on the backburner.
Mallory meets with Kamu and steps in it by mentioning that she would put Dee and Devens on the block if she were HOH. She argues that she’s worried that as popular returning reality stars, they’re more likely to get a chance at powers in the BB Time Capsule. Of course, she doesn’t know Kamu is working with the Survivor stars. So, while her logic does make sense on many levels, it actually makes her even more of a candidate for the block.
Meanwhile, Lyric has a strategy of her own when her time comes to meet with Kamu. She decides to distance herself from Rome a bit despite how much she loves him, knowing he would want her to play the game. She downplays her feelings, insinuating the feelings weren’t mutual and production does a hilarious job undercutting all her little white lies with footage of Lyric doing the opposite of what she tells Kamu. Lyric’s heart is still with Rome, but in order to play the game she is ready to stroke Kamu and the other guys’ egos a bit in a bid to stay off the block.
Flirting with danger?
While the Rome-Lyric showmance has come to an end, the Melody-Drew pairing appears to be getting closer and closer.
They’re definitely flirting and hang out a lot, but both claim they’re not looking for a showmance this summer because it could derail their game. It’s not really convincing the other houseguests, however, as the perception is they’re a showmance in the making.
Could this become a major storyline as the game progresses? It’s interesting to consider how a showmance could complicate Drew’s web of alliances that are pulling him in almost every direction. We already saw last week that Dee and Angela were itching to force Drew into a position to have to vote against Melody to prove his allegiance. I have a feeling they will continue to see Melody as a tool that can be used against Drew as their paranoia (unfounded as it is) continues to spiral.
Devens shines like a diamond
Mallory was right to be concerned about America voting to send the icons back to the Time Capsule, as this week Devens gets the chance to earn a power … or suffer a punishment.
Devens has to play the same game as Angela last week (see my recap here). Unlike Angela, Devens is actually successful. He is watching for a pattern and locks in successfully on Power No. 5 — the Diamond Power of Veto. This power allows him to remove someone from the block and name their replacement instead of the HOH. It’s good for the next six weeks, which guarantees Devens a lot of power to shape the game in the weeks ahead.
Since he isn’t coming out with a costume, it’s not immediately clear to the house who was sent into the Time Capsule and whether they have a power. Devens says he only plans on telling one person about his power — Dee. He doesn’t even want to share it with Angela. Dee loves it, saying it gives her goosebumps.
We’ve all seen the way Devens behaved with immunity idols (real and fake) on Survivor. And we just saw how willing he was last week to make a big move and potentially blow up things in the Big Brother house. Imagine how bold and ballsy Devens will be with this huge power in his back pocket?
A pawn and a plan
Kamu seems locked in on Mallory, Jason and LaLa. However, Drew senses an opportunity to take the wheel. He suggests that Jason could be an issue with veto or blockbuster comps, so why not do to Jason what was just done to Rome? Why not set Jason up for the backdoor rather than risk him working his way off the block if he goes up through the front door? Kamu loves this idea and begins to work in this direction.
Kamu meets with Jason, saying he won’t nominate Jason for the block TODAY. Note that he specifically only says TODAY. He makes no promises about the future. And Jason sees through the message, too, knowing danger lies ahead.
Later, Kamu meet with Lyric, outling that despite his earlier promise of safety he is instead going to put her up on the block as a pawn. Lyric doesn’t like this, but Kamu argues that with Rome gone she’s no longer a target. Lyric still isn’t persuaded and Kamu has to consider whether he wants to put his working relationship with Lyric at risk.
In the end, Kamu sticks with the plan Drew suggested — Mallory, LaLa and Lyric are put up for eviction. Kamu says it was a hard decision and it’s not personal. He says Mallory is strategic, while LaLa hasn’t talked game to him once all season. He re-affirms that Lyric is just a pawn and his real target is Jason. Lyric is disappointed and LaLa says she’s ready to tear things up. Mallory, on the other hand, is pissed that she’s back on the block while plenty of others still haven’t even touched the block.
The nomination ceremony wasn’t nearly as explosive as last week’s epic shouting match, but that doesn’t mean a spark wasn’t lit in the nominees. We’ll have to tune in on Wednesday to see if any of the noms can use that fire to get themselves off the block.
Who won HOH this week?
KAMU won HOH on Sunday, making it three weeks in a row that a member of the Toolshed alliance took control of the house.
Who was nominated for eviction this week?
As head of household, Kamu nominated LA TRICE, MALLORY and LYRIC for eviction this week. If any of the three win the veto competition, or another player wins and choose to use the power of veto on them, Kamu will have to select another houseguest as a replacement nominee.
