How Much Money Did The Uprising Make at the Box Office This Weekend?

The fall box office season is officially underway. The summer was defined by massive blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, as well as notable flops like Supergirl and Masters of the Universe. There aren’t quite as many big budget franchise films coming out before the holiday window, but there are a few highly-anticipated flicks that could make waves. The Uprising hit theaters on September 11, pairing A-list star Andrew Garfield with Bourne director Paul Greengrass. So how much business did the secret Robin Hood movie reel in over its first three days on the big screen?

Here is a breakdown of how The Uprising performed at the box office this past weekend:

The Uprising Box Office

The Uprising made $3.25 million at the box office between September 11 and September 13. Greengrass’ last theatrical film, News of the World, debuted to $2.3 million in December 2020, just as the first movie theaters were starting to re-open amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, he had Jason Bourne open to $59.2 million in 2016 and Captain Phillips open to $25.7 million in 2013. Garfield, meanwhile, had The Magic Faraway Tree make $1.3 million over its American opening weekend just last month. Since After the Hunt, We Live in Time, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Under the Silver Lake and Silence opened in limited release and Tick, Tick… Boom! went straight to Netflix, The Uprising marks Garfield’s best start as a leading man since Hacksaw Ridge in 2016.

There were not any Thursday preview grosses reported for The Uprising, but the made $1.39 million Friday. It proceeded to make $1.14 million on Saturday and $740K on Sunday. While The Uprising is not actually a Robin Hood movie – instead only based on a real historical event that supposedly inspired the Robin Hood story – it did open higher than A24’s The Death of Robin Hood did back in June.

Looking beyond the United States and Canada, there have not been any international numbers reported for The Uprising.

  5. Coyote vs. Acme – $6.2 million
    • Domestic Gross to Date: $47.8 million (3 weeks)

  1. Practical Magic 2 – $46.0 million

  2. The Odyssey – $34.4 million

  3. Spider-Man: Brand New Day – $27.4 million
