Another week, another player voted out on Survivor 51. During Wednesday’s episode, it was Ori who saw his torch snuffed in a three-person tribal council on Savu. The contenders are starting to separate themselves from the pretenders as we inch ever closer to the merge.
After this week’s sixth episode, titled “I Love Crying”, which names should fans be keeping an eye on going forward? Let’s take a look at who helped, or hurt, their chances at winning Survivor 51.

Biggest Risers
Kristin (+1)
Only a one-spot jump for Kristin this week, but she was already in second. Her position in first place is largely due to this week’s big twist. Three members of each tribe were selected for a Summit at a mysterious island. Upon arrival, the trio of Kristin, Ori and Sharonda were faced with a decision. Two players would go back to camp as a ‘hero’, bringing with them a plate of food. The remaining castaway would spend the night on Exile Island. However, that person would be given access to the tethered immunity idol. This advantage can only be used by the Exile Island player for the other two Summit participants.
Ori and Sharonda were more than willing to let Kristin tough it out in the elements. What the two weren’t aware of is that the tethered idol holds one more secret. If Ori and Sharonda are sent home, it becomes a standard immunity idol. It’s a powerful tool for Kristin, someone that has already proved adept at the social and survival aspects of this game. To make things even more enticing, Ori just got voted off of Savu (more on that later). Now, only Sharonda stands between Kristin and a full-fledged idol. Heading into the merge, it’s difficult to think of a more dangerous player on Survivor 51.
Mike (+4)
Mike’s been the brunt of some ridicule on Toka for weeks now. Most of the tribe doesn’t trust him, and the MLB executive doesn’t possess much social capital. An attempt to leverage an upcoming vote with Kristin largely fell on deaf ears, although she didn’t rule out working together in the future. The biggest issue for Mike is forming connections; other players don’t view him as genuine. Any effort to come together strategically feels like networking to almost everyone else on Fiji,
In spite of all the negativity, this week points to a new and improved Mike. You never want to lean too far into the edit, but it’s impossible not to in this case. Mike mentioned that this upcoming vote on Toka would likely determine whether he goes far or gets sent home immediately. Considering his tribe didn’t even go to tribal, it’s safe to say that things went according to plan. The merge is confirmed for next week, so it’ll be a brand-new game as well. The only upside to a lack of social capital is that you aren’t viewed as a big threat. As other big targets take shots at one another, Mike can operate from the shadows. There’s still plenty of work to do in terms of building win equity. Regardless, this is an under the radar contender for the title of Sole Survivor.
Biggest Fallers
Maggie (-2)
Lewis and Kilby got most of the attention, but it was Maggie that made Episode 5’s dramatics possible. By granting the guys both of her extra votes, the farmer made Linnea’s shocking blindside possible. In the process, she hampered Savu’s ability to form a post-merge coalition. Having said all that, you’d think everything would be smooth sailing for Maggie. After all, Toka’s dominance during immunity challenges has prevented the possibility of any potential vote out. She now enters the merge with allies on multiple tribes, all while showcasing some strategic savviness.
Still, it’s not as if Maggie is playing the most self-aware social game. Her insistence on keeping Toka organized is starting to backfire, highlighted by a questionable use of their communal hammock as a fishing net. The player with the biggest gripe is Brady. A feud between these two has been brewing for quite some time, going back to the wrestler granting Maggie an extra vote. Instead of using it as a team, she opted to give it to Lewis and Kilby. That lack of communication isn’t very wise, especially when dealing with the temperamental Brady. Having a loud, outspoken adversary is never a positive on Survivor. It doesn’t help that several other members of Toka have also grown frustrated with her. Add it all up, and it’s difficult to express much excitement about Maggie’s chances going forward.
Jelly (-3)
For the third episode in a row, it was new Savu that went to Tribal Council. That left Jelly in quite the predicament: send home showmance (?) Ori or number one ally Devin. Ultimately, she opted to send home the former. On paper, it’s a defensible move. After all, Dev has been her ride or die since the very first episode of Survivor 51. Finding a loyal co-conspirator is worth its weight in gold on a show that revels in backstabbing and manipulation. The pair, along with Sharonda, will hope to reignite the much-discussed Helicopter Alliance at merge.
Here’s the thing: choosing Devin was not best for Jelly’s game. Don’t just take my word for it; she said just as much when talking to Ori during Savu’s pre-tribal council scramble. To be fair, there’s a chance Jelly was just saying what he wanted to hear. However, something tells me that it wasn’t a lie. We’ve seen her balance strategic moves with social perception this season before. There’s a way to do that while winning Survivor; keeping a slightly paranoid, unsubtle player such as Devin around isn’t part of that formula. Admitting to choosing friendship over gameplay, during the pre-merge no less, is an automatic demerit on these power rankings.
