After a run of disappointing blockbusters like Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, Masters of the Universe, Supergirl and Moana, The Odyssey managed to revive the summer box office and then some. But for as much as some people might want to claim that a changing of the guard is underway, Marvel Studios has been the box office king for nearly two decades. Disney and Sony’s latest co-production, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hit theaters nationwide on July 31 with multiple records in its sights. So how much business did the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film bring in, and how does it stack up to the rest of the MCU on a financial level?
Here is a breakdown of how Spider-Man: Brand New Day performed at the box office this past weekend:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Box Office
Spider-Man: Brand New Day made a revised $360.1 million at the box office between July 31 and August 2. For comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home opened to $260.1 million in December 2021. The previous two Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, Homecoming and Far From Home, made $117.0 million and $92.6 million, respectively, over their opening weekends in July 2017 and July 2019. It is worth noting, however, that Far From Home opened on a Tuesday, so the $92.5 million it made over its first three days in theaters don’t count towards its opening weekend gross.
According to Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day made $72.0 million in domestic Thursday night previews – a new all-time record. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $169.8 million Friday gross, which is also a new record. Spider-Man: Brand New Day posted the largest domestic opening weekend so far in 2026, blowing out Toy Story 5 at $159.7 million, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at $131.7 million and The Odyssey at $123.5 million. Looking at the all-time charts, Brand New Day beat out Avengers: Endgame‘s $357.1 million opening weekend after the final totals come in on Monday. No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens round out the top five. Seven of the 11 movies to gross over $190 million domestically on their opening weekend now belong to Marvel Studios.
Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reeled in an additional $572.0 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $932.1 million worldwide over its opening weekend. Spider-Man: No Way Home made $600.8 million worldwide when it opened nearly five years ago en route to a $1.9 billion final gross. That film didn’t get a release in China, however, while Brand New Day did. The only movie with a larger opening weekend worldwide gross remains Avengers: Endgame, which scored $1.22 billion in its first three days alone.
