Amidst all of the four-quadrant blockbusters like Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, Masters of the Universe and Disclosure Day, the 2026 summer movie season has been largely defined by surprise, lower-budget hits. Obsession and Backrooms, especially, have taken the box office by storm. While it isn’t a horror movie like those two breakout hits, perhaps A24’s gritty The Death of Robin Hood could carry the torch as counterprogramming for Toy Story 5. So did the Hugh Jackman-starring period thriller bring in any business?

The Death of Robin Hood Box Office
The Death of Robin Hood made an estimated $2.6 million at the box office between June 19 and June 21. For comparison, A24 just had Backrooms open to $81.4 million in May, while The Drama grossed $14.4 million over its opening weekend back in April. Hugh Jackman’s last starring role came in Song Sung Blue, which opened to $7.1 million in December 2025.
According to Variety, The Death of Robin Hood made $1.1 million on Friday’s Juneteenth holiday. The Death of Robin Hood is on track for A24’s fifth-highest domestic opening weekend of 2026 so far, trailing Backrooms, The Drama, Undertone and How to Make a Killing while beating out The Moment, Mother Mary and Pillion. It placed No. 9 at the domestic box office this weekend.
Looking beyond the United States and Canada, A24 has yet to report what The Death of Robin Hood has reeled in overseas. A24 has multiple $100 million grossers globally so far in 2026, led by Backrooms and The Drama, not to mention Marty Supreme and Materialists clearing that threshold in 2025. The Death of Robin Hood certainly won’t approach nine figures given its modest start, but it might be able to shoot for the $18.9 million that The Green Knight netted in 2021.
