What happened last time on Big Brother Season 28?

Sunday’s episode revealed new footage from Thursday’s double eviction, including Dee’s disbelief that the house keeps letting her and Devens survive and Drew admitting he’ll say whatever it takes in the moment and re-examine later.

Melody had secured a guarantee from Drew that he’d vote out an Icon next to Yash — but Devens winning the veto changed the calculus, and Drew went back to the Icons. Drew admitted in the diary room he thinks he has a better chance to beat Dee in a comp than Yash. And technically, he argued, he held up his Pressure Cooker deal — he voted to keep Taylor and didn’t target Yash as HOH. Yash just should have read the fine print. So Dee stayed and Yash was sent off to jury.

Before the double eviction night was over, Dee was already targeting Drew again. Devens disagreed — he thinks keeping Drew is best for his game because Drew is the player most likely to take him to the end.

Then Big Brother 27 runner-up Vinny Panaro arrived, bringing with him the Pharaoh’s Curse. Each houseguest was sent to a room with a button — if nobody pressed it, everyone got $1,000. If someone pressed it first, they got $10,000 and everyone else got nothing. Devens pressed it (kids are expensive). The consequence: an extra “Egyptian” eviction this week, with only the HOH and veto winners safe.

What to expect in Big Brother Season 28 Episode 38

Devens’ nominations — and the Drew dilemma

Devens doesn’t want to nominate Drew. He’s said as much, as he thinks Drew is the player most likely to take him to a Final Two. Devens has built something of a “father-son” bond with the 22-year-old over the course of the season. But Dee is Devens’ No. 1, and she wants Drew gone. Taylor also wants the showmance broken up. And Devens knows that if he puts Melody on the block without Drew, Drew will absolutely use the veto on her — he admitted it in the diary room even while promising the Icons he’d throw the competition.

The logic appears to be pushing Devens toward nominating both Drew and Melody together: it neutralizes Drew’s ability to save Melody with the veto and gives the Icons the best chance of sending one of them home regardless of who wins. But Devens also can’t play HOH next week, which means he needs to surround himself with comp threats who can win and protect him. Drew is a better competitor than Melody. Sending Drew home this week and keeping Melody could leave Devens exposed.

Drew’s frustration is boiling over. He’s been nominated by his own allies repeatedly this season. He just voted to save Dee in the double eviction. And now the Icons are putting him on the block as a thank you. Drew asked Devens point blank whether he trusts Taylor more than he trusts Drew. Devens deflected, saying he trusts Taylor’s motivations more. It’s the Melody of it all that gives Devens pause — and it’s the answer Drew didn’t want to hear.

The Pharaoh’s Curse

The twist adds an extra eviction to what’s already a sped-up week. Someone is going home in an “Egyptian” eviction beyond the normal Thursday cycle, and only the HOH and veto winners are guaranteed safety.

The details of how this extra eviction works haven’t been fully revealed. What’s clear is that the week is compressed and someone’s game ends earlier than expected. For Drew and Melody, who are likely nominees, the veto isn’t just important — it may be the difference between making the Final Four and going to jury.

The veto decides everything

With only five houseguests remaining, all five compete in the veto. If Drew wins, he saves himself. If Melody wins, she saves herself but Drew stays on the block. If Dee or Taylor wins, the nominations almost certainly stay the same.

Drew has shown he can win when his back is against the wall — the Pressure Cooker was 13 hours of proof. Melody went 2-for-2 on double eviction night. The Icons have Devens (who just won a four-hour HOH) and Dee (who has been more of a social and strategic threat in the Big Brother house than a comp threat, though she’s got a reputation as a comp beast in Survivor). Taylor appears to be hte weak link when it comes to competitions.

Dee’s invisible game

Dee isn’t on the block. Dee isn’t in danger. Dee is, once again, pulling strings from the safest position in the house while someone else takes the risk and the blame.

She pushed Devens to nominate Drew and Melody. She’s been targeting Drew since the night he saved her in the double eviction. She’s already talked about cutting Devens if it gets her closer to the $750,000. She admitted on camera that she has a history of turning on alliances the moment they’re formed. And yet she remains at No. 1 in the power rankings, untouched.

Dee told Devens she was in lockstep with nominating the showmance. Devens thinks Dee is his No. 1. Dee has already been floating the idea of a women’s alliance with Taylor and Melody. If Drew goes home this week, Devens loses his most loyal potential ally — the one person in the house most likely to take him to the end. And the person who pushed for it was his own partner.

Drew and Melody’s last dance?

Drew considers Melody his closest friend in the house. Melody considers Drew hers. But their relationship is unique — they certainly have … chemistry … and hang out a lot, but Melody was rooting against Drew in the Pressure Cooker, tried to guilt him into using the veto on her, and has complained about him quite a bit.

Drew admitted he has mixed feelings. He sees why Melody would want nominations to stay the same when she’s not on the block, but it stung that she wasn’t more excited when he won the Pressure Cooker. The showmance label makes them a target, and the Icons have been talking about separating them for weeks.

If both Drew and Melody stay on the block after the veto, one of them is going to jury. The question is which one — and whether Drew’s competition ability or Melody’s Thursday night breakout makes them the bigger threat in the Icons’ eyes.
