Big Brother Season 28 Power Rankings: Dee remains No. 1 after surviving Week 10 double eviction

Another week, another survival for the Survivor alums.

Melody won not one, but two comps on Thursday, setting the stage for Devens to win the Power of Veto to save himself and then Dee to be saved by Drew, who broke his deal with Yash to send the comp beast home. We’ve got a Final 5 that seemed improbable at the start of Thursday night, and it feels like we could be heading to an Iconic victory.

We’re down to the Final 5, and I have to admit it feels strange not to have Yash in the house any more. Going into last night’s episode, it felt like it would be a battle between him and Dee moving forward, and his elimination was a major move.

Did I think it was a good choice by Drew to send Yash to jury instead of Dee? Not really. There are arguments on both sides, especially given how clear it was that Yash HATED Drew. But it’s been clear that Dee also has little patience for the 22-year-old and her reality TV experience and strategic game makes her the biggest threat in my mind. But even the dining table time machine can’t bring Yash back at this point, so all we can do is move forward.

With that in mind, here are my power rankings of the Final 5 in Big Brother Season 28.

1. Dee (-)

What is there left to say that hasn’t already been said about Dee at this point?

Sure, she’s been somewhat disappointing from a comp perspective this season, but what she lacks in that department she more than makes up for in strategic acumen. For two straight weeks, Dee has threaded the needle to survive what should have been an easy vote to send her home. Think about this:

• Dee put Drew on the block earlier this season.
• Dee has questioned Drew’s loyalty throughout the season.
• Dee called Drew out during her eviction speech last week.
• Dee almost never hangs with Drew.
• Dee already spearheaded the effort to eliminate two of Drew’s allies in Mallory and Barrett and isn’t close to his No. 1 ally Melody.

And despite all that, Drew threw away a chance to send her to jury and wound up keeping her. Dee’s powers of persuasion are undefeated. She convinced Drew in a relatively short period of time that if Yash stayed, Drew was going home despite Yash promising to run to end with him.

If the newbies can’t see the forest for the trees and allow her to hang around, and if Devens is going to remain loyal to a fault to his fellow Survivor, then it looks like Dee could become the first person to win both Survivor and Big Brother.

2. Devens (-)

With Yash out of the house, is Devens the biggest comp threat left? After another dominant Veto win, the argument could be made.

Devens was one of the players in the most danger from the double eviction along with Dee and Yash, and yet both he and his closest ally Dee survived. Plus, he’s also still got Drew (and the possibility of a “father-son” Final 2), while Yash and Barrett are gone. I think all of that represents the best-case scenario for the Survivor alum moving forward.

There is danger for Devens, however. The biggest of which is the fact that Dee seems more willing to cut Devens than he is to cut her. There has already been some talk among Dee, Taylor and Melody about forming a women’s alliance and I can’t even rule out Dee taking her shot at Devens in her next HOH.

But all in all, Devens has proven himself to be excellent at Big Brother, perhaps even better than at Survivor, as James Gunn suggested on Thursday’s episode.

3. Taylor (+3)

After Thursday’s performance from Melody, Taylor is now the player with the least obvious resume left in the house. And that may be a good thing for her. Let me explain.

If you watch the Live Feeds, then you know there is more than meets the eye when it comes to her resume, but you can see a scenario where a Devens or Dee sees her as an easier competitor to be in a Final 2 with than anyone else. Her last-minute alliance with the Icons could also come into play, as with Yash gone she is alone on an island. That makes her easier for them to pick up and work with, as we all know she has no love lost with Drew.

Taylor hasn’t been winning comps, but underestimate her at your own peril. I think either Icon wins against her in a jury vote, but I don’t think it’s as much of a lock as they probably do. You have to figure she’ll have Yash and LaLa advocating for her in jury house, and if it’s her versus an Icon at the end, we could get an anti-Icon vote that gives her the win.

I think she may have hurt Yash with her vocal hate for Drew, as it probably made him feel like he would be in danger if Yash had stayed. But no matter how you slice it, she’s in something of an interesting spot heading into the Final 5.

4. Melody (+3)

If ever a player needed a win, it was Melody. And she got not just one, but two wins. That was huge and literally saved her game, but I still don’t think she’s in the upper tier of players left in the game.

The reality is, her two wins likely make her more of a threat than Taylor in the Icons’ eyes. Before, neither Melody nor Taylor had won much, so you could make the argument that they would be interchangeable in terms of someone you would want to drag to Final 2 as an “easy win.” But now Melody has back-to-back comp wins under her belt, plus she got a major threat (Yash) out during her HOH. She actually doesn’t have a terrible resume, when you think about it. Which, unfortunately for her, makes her more expendable if an Icon is in power.

Also working against her is her close relationship with Drew. For most of the season, the Icons have been talking about separating the showmance, so it would make sense for a potential block of Melody and Drew this week. Plus, the Icons have a working relationship with Taylor, while Melody just put both of them on the block on Thursday night. And Melody might not be in Taylor’s good graces after Yash’s eviction at Drew’s hands.

Melody’s best path forward is comping out. I don’t really see that as a possibility, but I suppose you can’t rule it out after a 2-for-2 night on Thursday. Her best-case scenario is either her or Drew win HOH, and even then you can’t ever rule out Drew prioritizing an Icon over her (although perhaps this is a spot where he would finally cut Dee). But, no matter what happens, Melody will always have that magical Thursday night where she went from likely going home to reshaping the game with a major move.

5. Drew (-1)

Drew is a real mixed bag after Thursday’s double eviction.

On the plus side, his No. 1 ally Melody not only survived, but thrived. That kept him safe throughout the night and gives him a built in loyal ally as we inch closer and closer to the endgame. But there were downsides as well.

All things being equal, Drew admitted that while he’s closer to Melody, Barrett would have been better for him from a competitive standpoint. Yes, Melody won two competitions last night, but it feels unlikely that she could pull that off again. And then Melody winning HOH and Devens winning Veto put Drew in a very tough spot, namely a decision on whether or not to honor his deal with Yash.

In the end, Drew chose to keep Dee and burn Yash, sending him to jury house. I said in last night’s recap that I thought keeping Dee was a mistake, and I stand by that today. Not only did Yash make a direct plea to Drew to keep him while Dee did not, you have to remember that Dee is COLD-BLOODED. Voting to save her — especially for Drew, who she has been suspicious of basically all season — is no guarantee of future safety. And shocker, Dee was already talking to Devens about cutting Drew last night.

So, congrats, you saved the most dangerous strategic player in the game who has already won Survivor, been working against you despite being your ally and you likely cost yourself jury votes in the process. But then again, Drew is gonna Drew, and that means being loyal to a fault to the Icons even if they don’t reciprocate.
