The summer rolls on and let’s be honest … Big Brother Season 28 could use a shakeup.

The Crossovers/Toolshed alliance has dominated, taking control of the house each of the first three weeks. The reality icons — Dee, Devens and Angela — have been able to play from a position of power all season, making it so they haven’t really been challenged. That’s not to say they haven’t played a good game — Devens and Dee, in particular, as they sit in the top two spots in my Power Rankings at the moment — but it’s easier to do that when you’re aligned with the HOH and, in Devens’ case, you have an enormous advantage.

Can the other side of the house do something, ANYTHING, to slow the momentum of the Toolshed? And will Angela and Dee finally get their wish and see Drew truly in danger this week?

Big Brother Season 28 Week 4 Results

Sunday’s episode began Week 4 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. The Toolshed once again grabbed power for the week, with Haley earning the HOH key.

Haley has already been a different type of HOH than any of her predecessors this season. Will her “my way or the highway” ethos stir drama? And will she be successful in evicting her target this week? Only time will tell.

Big Brother Season 28 Episode 13 recap

The highs and lows of the house

In the aftermath of Jason’s eviction, Kamu is flying high, thinking he had a “perfect” HOH. I would beg to differ, but that’s just me. On the other side of the house, the mood is dour, with players like Mallory and Melody feeling the pressure to win this week’s HOH comp to finally turn the tide.

Drew is on the Toolshed side technically, and feeling good since he thinks he’s not on anyone’s hit list. If only he knew how many memories of his own alliance are plotting his downfall. Angela, however, is pushing a plan to backdoor Drew, which Haley is open to after Drew pushed a little too hard to save Mallory last week. That also was a red flag for Devens, who saw it as incredibly bad for his game and had him “tripping.” Drew ultimately didn’t have to make a decision on Mallory, but it showed him that Drew is a liability for his game and can’t be trusted. It might be time to remove a tool from the toolshed.

Drew’s pal Melody, meanwhile, has had enough of Haley and what she’s been saying about her. Drew has told Melody about some of the comments Haley has been making about Melody, her body and everything else, and Melody has had enough. She is done being civil with Haley and admits in front of a group that she straight up hates Haley.

HOH comp leads to a house of horrors

This week’s HOH comp sent the houseguests back to September 28, 1888. In 1888, Jack the Ripper is on the loose, but the houseguests will get clues about where he will strike next. They will have to search a house for hiding places and then once a clue is read, remember which room will keep them safe. It’s the same memory comp as was used in Big Brother Season 27 last summer, won by Rachel Reilly.

Seemingly everyone is determined to win this HOH … except for Drew, who has missed ALL the danger signs and still thinks he’s in a great spot with everyone. Drew, what are you doing?!? During the course of the comp, Haley makes a deal with Yash and Lyric, guaranteeing their safety if they’ll do the same for her in the event any of the three of them win.

Of course, it comes down to Yash and Haley, with HALEY coming out victorious and becoming this week’s HOH. It’s another week of power for the Toolshed, which is a best-case scenario in Devens’ eyes. For Melody and the otherside of the house, however, it’s a worst-case scenario. Taylor even goes so far as preparing herself for what she calls a week from hell.

Spoiler alert: She was right.

Haley’s revenge tour

Haley, who described herself as not a girl’s girl earlier in the season, immediately makes clear to Devens that she is going to use her HOH reign as a bit of a revenge tour for all the perceived slights she has suffered this season. It’s at this point, I would like to remind you that Haley for saying how hard her three weeks in the house have been has yet to see the block, so I agree with Melody that she hasn’t really had it that tough. But, it is true that she has been something less than popular in the house.

In lieu of reading her HOH letter, Haley decides to read the house a bit of the riot act, telling people who have been dragging her name through the mud that they should leave her room now, not eat her snacks and not use her shower. She thinks this is great, but everyone else notes how awkward it made things. This tact will do NOTHING for Haley once she’s out of power.

Taylor has already stepped in it by insulting Haley’s sugar-free candy, but she is stressing because she is coaching LaLa up so much that she says it feels at times like she’s playing the game for two. She tells LaLa that since LaLa and Haley have butted heads in the past, she needs to go up to the HOH room and offer up some information. Specifically, Melody’s diatribe about Haley from before the HOH comp. LaLa has no problem doing this, but it’s clear that she’s not particularly good at it. But it does work in terms of putting a target on Melody’s back, even if Haley doesn’t particularly love that LaLa was the first person to come up and throw someone under the bus.

Another power goes to the vets

For the third week in a row, one of the reality icons has been sent by America into the BB Time Capsule with Dee taking her turn in the chair. Dee is focused on the blue, but her strategy is to buzz in and pray for the best. Luckily for her, she’s successful and wins the BB Bribe. That power entitles her the opportunity to offer one houseguest $5K to benefit her game, like nominating or not nominating a person, using or not using a veto or influencing their vote. It can be used in public or private and is single use, good for the rest of the game. If a houseguest accepts the bribe, they have to perform the action.

It’s a decent-sized power, if not quite as good as Devens’ Diamond Power of Veto. However, unlike Devens, Dee is planning not to tell ANYONE she has won this power.

1 on 1s with an edge

Meanwhile, Melody meets with Haley, and Haley immediately reveals she knows what Melody has said about her, calling it mean girl behavior (which is pretty laughable coming from Haley given what we saw her saying about Melody and others). Melody really doesn’t try to deny it, owning up and apologizing for it, but also admitting that she was considering putting up Haley if she was HOH. All of which is a one-way ticket to the block.

Haley is looking for a pawn, so it has her looking at Drew and Barrett. She accuses Barrett of trying to flip the vote, which he denies. She explains that she’s worried about the numbers of girls dwindling and she’s still a girl — despite there being two men in a row eliminated — and Barrett sees the writing on the wall that she is angling to nominate someone from their alliance. This is the last straw for Barrett, who says in the Diary Room that is he is DONE with the Toolshed at this point.

Drew follows and Haley once again throws out the idea of a male pawn, with Yash off the table. Drew also sees the potential of him going up, and he wants to confirm they’re still on the same side. She says they are, but there’s a lot of talk about what he’s doing. She advises him to lay low. Drew is confused why this is even a consideration since they’re in an alliance together, but unlike Barrett, doesn’t seem to be done with the Toolshed. … yet.

Welcome to the block

Ultimately, Haley nominates Melody, Taylor and Drew — no surprises there, really. Haley says she’s not here for BS or games and tells the nominees they have two chances to take themselves off, so good luck. In a diary room confessional, she says Melody does nothing for her game and gives “mean girl” energy, while Drew is a pawn and Taylor is a path which puts Haley thinks puts the least amount of blood on her hands.

Taylor thinks Haley is on a power trip, while Drew says now he has a chance to take a shot at Haley moving forward if he survives.

HALEY won HOH on Sunday, making it four weeks in a row that a member of the Toolshed alliance took control of the house.

As head of household, Haley nominated DREW, MELODY and TAYLOR for eviction this week. If any of the three win the veto competition, or another player wins and choose to use the power of veto on them, Haley will have to select another houseguest as a replacement nominee.
