The Blue Jays ensured that they will avoid a sweep in the ALCS with a 13-4 win over the Mariners in Seattle. Milwaukee will look to do the same today as the series moves to LA, while Toronto will look to even up the ALCS. The schedule is as follows:

  • Milwaukee Brewers (Aaron Ashby) at Los Angeles Dodgers (Tyler Glasnow) — 6:08 p.m. ET (TBS)
  • Toronto Blue Jays (Max Scherzer) at Seattle Mariners (Luis Castillo) — 8:33 p.m. ET (FS1)

Here’s some MLB picks and props to consider for October 16 and make sure to check out the DraftKings Network Betting Splits to see how the public is betting the action.

MLB Odds & Storylines

In the first game of the day at 6:08 p.m. ET, the Brewers will look to avoid being put on the brink of elimination as the Dodgers head home up 2-0. The Dodgers are -174 favorites on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook, with the run total set at 7.5.

Tyler Glasnow takes the ball for the Dodgers and he has experienced plenty of success against the Brewers, while Milwaukee bats are 10-for-71 (.141) lifetime vs. Glasnow with 3 home runs. Glasnow gave up only 1 ER in 11 IP (0.82 ERA) and 11 Ks against the Brewers this season and has also been dominant in the postseason, going 7 2/3 innings pitched this postseason with a 0.00 ERA and 10 Ks. So it’s no surprise that in his Best Prop Bets article, Griffin Wong highlights Glasnow O15.5 Outs Recorded (-130). Meanwhile, in his Top Home Run Props, Garion Thorne is riding with Shohei Ohtani 1+ Home Run (+232). Despite not registering an extra-base hit since Game 1 of the Wild Card series, Garion points out that Ohtani finished the regular season ranking in the 100th percentile in both barrel rate (23.5%) and expected slugging rate (.672). Garion says Ohtani is an absolute sleeping giant that could break out at any time, so he wouldn’t be shocked to see Ohtani hit a long ball at hitter-friendly Dodger Stadium tonight.

In the second game on tonight’s slate, the Blue Jays will send Max Scherzer to the hill in a bid to even up the ALCS against Luis Castillo and the Mariners. The Mariners are -122 favorites on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook, with the run total set at 7.5.

Scherzer, who is making his 2025 postseason debut for Toronto, did not face the Mariners this season while also posting a 5.19 ERA this season. On the other side, Blue Jays hitters are a career 34-for-133 (.256) vs Castillo with 5 home runs, although he is 1-1 over 10 IP with a 7.20 ERA and 8 strikeouts against the Blue Jays this season. With all that in mind, Bryan Armetta in his game preview is leaning over 7.5 total runs (-105) in this one. He says Toronto’s bats came alive in Game 3 and nothing about Scherzer’s performance post-September should inspire confidence. To that end about Mad Max’s recent performance, Garion is targeting Josh Naylor 1+ Home Run (+493). He notes that in September, Scherzer surrendered four home runs and 17 earned runs, culminating in a 10.20 ERA and a .623 opponent slugging percentage. Meanwhile, Naylor registered an .843 OPS and a 135 wRC+ against RHPs across 412 plate appearances during the regular season and also went deep earlier this week in ALCS Game 2.
