This is it — we’ve reached the final weekend of the regular season and there are still playoff spots up for grabs. All 30 teams are in action today, with all but one game on the slate set to begin after 6 p.m. ET. Atlanta appears to be the only spot for weather concern of note. After a loss last night north of the border, the Red Sox’s magic number remains at 1 entering play today. Boston can clinch a playoff spot with either a win at home against the Tigers, who avoided a sweep at the hands of the Guardians on Thursday with a 4-2 victory, or a loss by the Astros, who face the Angels. Kyle Harrison (1-1; 3.63 ERA; 1.19 WHIP) takes on Casey Mize (14-6; 3.91 ERA; 1.28 WHIP) at the Fens, and the Red Sox are +1.5 underdogs on the run line at DraftKings Sportsbook. A fun fact to consider: Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has hit a home run in each of Boston’s last two games vs. the Tigers (Bregman to hit a home run — +593).
The Yankees have taken advantage of five-game win streak — in concert with their arch rival Red Sox taking 2 of 3 from the Blue Jays — to vault themselves into a tie for first place in the AL East (although it should be noted that the Blue Jays hold the tie breaker). The Bombers send Will Warren (8-8; 4.35 ERA; 1.37 WHIP) to the mound in the Bronx against the Orioles, with the Yankees — 1.5 favorites on the run line on DraftKings Sportsbook.
