Arch-rivals are set to battle for the second straight postseason. Tuesday marks the start of another Red Sox-Yankees wild card round series, with the winner moving on to face Tampa Bay. Game 1’s matchup is a must-watch affair on the mound, with Payton Tolle and Cam Schlittler toeing the slab. Still, someone’s gotta score some runs as well. Which players are poised to make an impact in this star-studded showdown?
The Yankees are favorites (-140) over the Red Sox on DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s break down two player props worth consideration ahead of Tuesday’s contest in the Bronx.
Red Sox vs. Yankees Best Prop Bets Tonight for Tuesday 9/29/26
Payton Tolle 7+ strikeouts (-145)
Schlittler is the headliner tonight, and for good reason. However, he’s not the only talented young arm on the bump this evening. Tolle has been nothing short of phenomenal, establishing himself as one of baseball’s premier starters. Through 148.2 innings (26 starts), he’s notched a 3.03 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 171 strikeouts (10.4 K/9). Tolle ranks within the 90th percentile or better in xERA (2.70), xBA (.199) and chase rate (36.4%). He’s allowed just three earned runs over his previous 17.2 innings (1.53 ERA).
It’s fair to wonder how Tolle will perform during his first career start at Yankee Stadium. Still, it’s not as if the rookie has had trouble away from Fenway Park. In fact, he’s been more effective on the road (2.50 ERA) than at home (3.52 ERA). New York’s offense, despite a midsummer slump, ranked among the league’s best in September. Regardless, the Achilles heel for this group remains whiffs. The Yankees are striking out 9.19 times per game, sixth-most in the majors this season. Over the past month, the Pinstripes own the league’s sixth-highest strikeout rate (24.9%). Seven or more K’s feels more than reasonable for Tolle in this one.
Cody Bellinger 2+ total bases (+147)
Tolle is great, but he isn’t invincible. If anyone on New York’s lineup can make an impact tonight, it’s Cody Bellinger. Unlike most of his teammates, the outfielder is a fairly disciplined batter. His 15.8% strikeout rate sits within the 82nd percentile among qualified hitters. A knack for working the count could frustrate Boston’s talented, but relatively inexperienced, arm. Even more important, Bellinger has been mashing over the past few weeks. During the month of September, the All-Star is slugging .494 with five home runs.
In theory, Bellinger could have some difficulty against one of baseball’s best southpaw starters. However, New York’s veteran is an outlier in that regard. He’s slashing .274/.330/.425 against left-handed pitching, compared to .259/.343/.432 against righties. In other words, he’s able to hit almost any kind of opposing pitcher. To boot, Belli takes full advantage of Yankee Stadium’s lefty-friendly dimensions. He comes into Tuesday with a stellar .555 slugging percentage and 13 home runs this season when playing at home. All it’ll take is one solid drive from the 31-year-old to cash in on this player prop.
