Who Won Big Brother Season 28 Tonight? Finale Results

Updated:

By: Andy Silva

Taylor was considered one of the weaker competition players in Big Brother Season 28. Then she won the Final 4 Head of Household competition and took control of her own destiny. Surely that was a one-time occurrence, right? Nope! Taylor won Part 1 of the final HOH competition, once again giving herself control of her fate in the game.

But who would join her in Part 3 of the final HOH — Devens or Drew? Let’s not forget that Drew had a chance to cut Devens at Final 4, but decided to keep him because he felt like it would eventually guarantee him a spot in the Final 2. But Devens actually has proven to be the stronger competitor when it mattered this season than Dee, and sure enough Devens won Part 2.

That leaves Taylor vs. Devens in Part 3, with Drew iced out. Ultimately, Devens won Part 3, taking Taylor with him to the Final 2 in something of a surprise. After making their final pitches to the full jury, Devens was named the winner of Big Brother Season 28 by a jury vote of 6-1!

Read below to see how we got to that point.

Big Brother Season 28 Finale recap

Taylor earns electric win

After getting a game reset from Julie, we travel back to 1752 for Part 1 of the final HOH competition. Taylor feels like she HAS to win, as it feels like Drew and Devens have already decided to take each other to Final 2. They have made that deal, but Drew also knows it would be a big boon to his résumé to take out Devens. And in order to do that, he has to win HOH.

Between the “rain,” “lightning” and rotating log, this competition is no joke. All Drew has to do is outlast Taylor and a spot in Part 3 is his due to his deal with Devens, but instead of winning HOH, Drew is crowned the mayor of Choke City after falling off first. Now it’s up to Devens and he says he is locked in with $750K worth of motivation.

Taylor says Devens may be playing for his two kids, but she’s playing for 400 — her students, who she wants to show them they can do anything. At about the 50-minute mark it happens — Devens falls off and Taylor is off to Part 3 of the final HOH comp. Drew and Devens may have underestimated Taylor, but Drew gives her the props she deserves and both are locked in for a “father-son” showdown in Part 2.

Devens does it

To be or not to be, that is the question facing Drew and Devens as they are sent back to the time of Shakespeare for Part 2 of the final HOH.

In each round, Drew and Devens will see a playbill and have to shoot tomatoes at any evicted houseguests who aren’t in the play’s cast. The first player to win three rounds earns their spot in Part 3 vs. Taylor. The first cast includes all the players who have won a veto this season. Drew knows he needs to win to cut Devens and prove to the jury that he’s more than just a middle man. Meanwhile, Devens is fighting through a bad back which is messing with his aim. So, it’s no surprise when Drew takes the first round.

Round 2 features a cast of Zingbot’s victims, and this time it’s Drew who is struggling, which allows Devens to take the round and tie things up. The cast for Round 3 is everyone who served as a replacement nominee. Once again, Devens’ aim is true and he takes a 2-1 lead, but his back is BARKING.

The cast for Round 4 will include all HOH winners. Drew is feeling the pressure, while Devens appears to be cool as a cucumber. And the former two-time Survivor contestant comes through to earn his place in Part 3 of the Final HOH. Drew can’t believe he lost to someone old enough to be his dad with a bad back to boot. Meanwhile, Taylor says Devens is the final boss of Big Brother Season 28, and she’s prepared to go through the Icon to win $750,000.

The jury gives notice

Big Brother 26 winner Chelsie Baham is back to host the jury roundtable. And her first act is to welcome Dee to the jury, much to the dismay of Melody who told Drew if he had the shot he had to get rid of Devens.

Angela says to win Big Brother you have to have a well-rounded game, while Yash says Taylor had a good pulse on the game. Barrett agrees, and says he always felt like talking to her was like talking to a friend he could vent to. However, did she fly under the radar too much? LaLa wants to hear how she played her game, while Dee and Melody say it’s not enough to just keep escaping the block.

In talking about Drew’s game, Melody notes how much she hates when people play the middle, but Dee says that is a skill unto itself. And Melody admits that Drew pulled it off and now is starting to comp out. Barrett was annoyed by Drew’s game, but he admits Drew always knew what he was doing. Angela agrees, noting that Drew never tired and made himself a part of every conversation. When it comes to Drew’s biggest flaw, Yash unsurprisingly points out that Drew rode the coattails of the Icons, while Angela added that he constantly needed their validation. LaLa once again wants to know what moves Drew made by himself.

When it comes to Devens, LaLa may not love Devens, but she can’t deny he was a beast. Yash called Devens a puppetmaster (in the best way) and said his social game was phenomenal, while Dee points out that Devens could have come in with a target on his back but had the social capital to make it work. Even if you want to point out that Devens had advantages — which Melody and Barrett do — Dee argues he used them well, getting out a major player in Kamu.

The Survivor survives again

In Part 3 of the final HOH comp, Devens and Taylor square off in a game called “Back In My Day.” Devens and Taylor will see interviews with jury members in which they hear three statements about their time in the game where one is false. Devens and Taylor have to identify which statement is false and the player with the most points at the end of the game becomes the final HOH.

Up first is LaLa, and both Devens and Taylor get the false statement correct. Up next is Angela, and this time Devens is the player to get the answer right and he takes a 2-1 lead. Barrett appears next, and once again Devens and Taylor are in agreement and both get another point.

Yash may have been Taylor’s No. 1 ally, but he can’t bring her luck in this game. Devens gets another point to take a 4-2 lead. After Drew gets zinged again courtesy of Melody, Devens and Taylor each earn another point, giving Devens a 5-3 victory and the final Head of Household title.

But who would Devens bring with him to the Final 2?

Devens stays loyal to his No. 1 alliance in life, not the house

Would Devens stay true to his promise to take Drew to Final 2? Or did Taylor’s last-minute pitch about Devens needing to evict Drew to send him and his vote to jury convince him to take her to the end?

After one final pitch from Drew and Taylor, Devens has a $750,000 decision to make. Ultimately, he does what is right for his No. 1 alliance—his family—and votes to evict Drew.

The 22-year-old admits he thinks it’s the right move, but it still hurts. Drew says he saw it coming: As soon as he sat next to Taylor, he knew he was the bigger target and could be getting cut.

The Final 2 face the jury

Drew takes his place with the rest of the jury, to Angela’s joy and seemingly no one’s surprise (Yash even called it). But Drew wasn’t the story at this point. The story was the Final 2, and it was time to fire away at the remaining players.

LaLa asked Taylor what her biggest challenge in the game was, and Taylor says it was constantly being on the block and showcasing her resilience. She’s still here despite it all.

Dee asks Devens if coming in as an Icon was an advantage or disadvantage. Devens knows there were privileges to his status, but the Icons used their advantages cleverly. There was a target on the Icons’ backs the whole game and there were opportunities to get rid of them, but they formed strong alliances that protected them. Even with everyone knowing they had to get rid of him, Devens survived to the end and survived because of the relationships he created, not because he was an Icon.

Barrett asks Taylor what her most influential move was this season, and she says it was that she organized the vote flip among Melody and Lyric. She says that’s why the powerhouse Toolshed alliance fell and everything fell apart, with the Red Corner gone from the game shortly thereafter.

Melody asks which houseguest Devens had the most influence over, and despite everyone thinking he would say Drew, Devens says they were actually collaborators. If anything, Devens argues that it was the Red Corner he had the most influence over and he claims he had the most to do with the Lyric vote flip. Drew was the best collaborator he says he could have asked for.

Angela asks why Taylor should win over Devens, and Taylor says she didn’t enter the game with power and privilege and she had to work to get to the end. Yash follows up by asking how Devens pivoted, and Devens notes that he had a great thing going with Kamu and Yash but when Yash put up Dee, he had to pivot to save his Dee and his alliance. He also had to pivot away from Barrett when he made his big move.

Drew was just evicted, but gets a chance to ask one of the Final 2 a question. He asked Devens when he decided to cut him, which leads Devens to tell the story of the deal he made with Taylor. She went to him and threatened to withhold her vote and convince LaLa to vote against him too. Devens simply couldn’t risk coming up short after 12 weeks in the Big Brother house and walking away with nothing to bring home to his family.

And the winner is…

Taylor and Devens each get one more chance to make their pitch to the jury. Taylor says humility, vigilance and respect were the values she wanted to show in the house. She says viewers can call her the Cinderella of the season: She was never silent, but instead working behind the scenes all along.

Devens knew giving up the summer with his family would be hard, but he made big swings all season long. He didn’t want to coast, but rather control the action. He hustled to put alliances together and saw every eviction go his way. His hands are covered in blood, even if it was hard to cut people he cared about. Ultimately, he believes he would be a great representative for Season 28 as its winner.

Then it was time to vote. LaLa casts her vote for the player she believes played the hardest. Angela says she loves both competitors, but votes for the player she can’t think of a reason not to support. Barrett says he is proud of both Devens and Taylor, who fought their way to the end. Yash says he is voting for the player he thinks earned it the most. Melody loved playing the game with both competitors, but she is voting for an absolute shark. Dee says she is voting for the person who poured their heart and soul into the game and deserves to win the most. And finally, Drew isn’t mad, he’s just disappointed.

After 87 days in the Big Brother house, Julie pulls the keys and the winner is … RICK DEVENS! After coming close in Survivor, Devens finally caught fire in the Big Brother house and brought home $750,000 to his family. He also won another $50K as America’s Favorite Houseguest and got a shoutout from Survivor boss Jeff Probst.

Julie concluded the night by announcing that Big Brother has been picked up for two more seasons, so we’ll see you all next summer!
