Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, April 7: Jayson Tatum
In case you haven’t been paying attention, Jayson Tatum is starting to look like Jayson Tatum again. It took the perennial All-NBA First Teamer less than a month to return to superstar form, which he has undoubtedly done as of late. Since March 27, Tatum has averaged 25.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and eight assists over five contests. He played no fewer than 31 minutes in a game over that stretch, as his conditioning continues to be remarkably impressive for someone less than a year removed from a torn Achilles.
The Celtics’ path to victory is pretty straightforward. When he receives a usage rate above 33%, they almost always win. It’s a simple equation, and one that Joe Mazzulla and Tatum’s teammates have committed to upon his return. He’s not just back, he’s running the offense like he never left. To make his case even more appealing, Boston draws the Hornets Tuesday.
Jayson Tatum DOMINATES against Charlotte. Since the 2020-21 campaign, he’s averaged a ridiculous 31.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists against the Hornets. He just dropped 32-8-5 against them in their own building about a week ago. For whatever reason, Boston’s superstar loves this specific matchup. I expect him to stuff the stat sheet en route to a monstrous performance on Tuesday in TD Garden.
