Roman Reigns & Jey Uso defeat Bron Breakker & “Big” Bronson Reed (with Paul Heyman)
Roman Reigns hadn’t been seen since WrestleMania in April, where his world was shattered by a shocking betrayal from his longtime Wiseman, Paul Heyman. Months later, Reigns made his WWE return—only to discover that Heyman, now calling himself “The Oracle,” had aligned himself with a new power faction led by Reigns’ former Shield brother, Seth Rollins, alongside Bron Breakker and Big Bronson Reed. With Rollins out due to a knee injury, Reigns is out for vengeance—teaming up with his cousin Jey Uso to battle the faction’s enforcers at SummerSlam.
The match was an absolute banger to kick off SummerSlam Night 1, packed with multiple near falls that kept the crowd on edge. Reigns looked phenomenal in his ring return, soaring over the top rope to take out both opponents—despite taking a nasty fall himself—before delivering a spear to Breakker through the barricade.
The match reached a climax as Breakker went for a spear on Jey Uso, but Reigns heroically shoved his cousin out of the way, taking the hit himself. Seizing the moment, Uso delivered a spear to Reed, followed by a top-rope splash that sealed the victory with a decisive 1-2-3.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss defeat Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c)
This match was set in motion after Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez successfully defended their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in a Fatal 4-Way at last month’s all-women premium live event, Evolution. Although Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss were part of that match, they weren’t involved in the deciding fall. Since then, they’ve built momentum with a string of singles victories, earning another shot at the titles at SummerSlam.
Rodriguez and Perez started the match strong, quickly isolating Bliss and keeping her grounded with relentless offense. But once Bliss managed to make the hot tag, Flair made her presence felt, unleashing her full arsenal. She dropped both opponents with a crossbody, followed by a thunderous clothesline to Rodriguez and a powerful fallaway slam on Perez. Flair then soared off the top rope, landing a picture-perfect moonsault onto both members of Judgment Day, shifting the momentum in her team’s favor.
After Flair locked in the Figure-Four on Rodriguez, Perez made the save for her partner with a timely strike, breaking up the submission. Moments later, miscommunication struck as Bliss accidentally caught Flair with a right hand. Perez capitalized, hitting “Pop Rocks” on Flair, but Bliss managed to break up the pin just in time. The chaos continued as Bliss delivered Sister Abigail to Perez, while Flair simultaneously leveled Rodriguez with a big boot—clearing the path for Bliss to score the pin and secure the victory for her team.
Flair and Bliss are your new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Sami Zayn defeats Karrion Kross
This match served as a solid mid-card filler, marking a long-overdue spotlight for Karrion Kross at one of WWE’s biggest events of the year. Their rivalry began at WWE Night of Champions in June, where Sami Zayn emerged victorious over Kross. Since then, Kross has continuously tried to break Zayn’s spirit, attempting to lure him away from his principles and embrace his darker side.
Fast forward to the end of the match, Scarlett Bordeaux tried to tempt Zayn into grabbing a lead pipe and unleashing his inner darkness—but Zayn refused, rejecting the weapon and throwing it out of the ring. After narrowly kicking out of a rollup from Kross, Zayn rallied with a powerful exploder suplex, before sealing the win with a Helluva Kick.
WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) defeats Queen of the Ring Jade Cargill
This highly anticipated match comes on the heels of Jade Cargill’s impressive victory in the WWE Queen of the Ring tournament, where she defeated Asuka in the finals. Meanwhile, Tiffany Stratton has held the WWE Women’s Championship since January, when she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax, kicking off a dominant 200-day title reign.
Stratton showcased her incredible athleticism right from the jump, hitting Cargill with a swanton off the top rope. But Cargill quickly fought back, displaying her power on Stratton with a backbreaker before unleashing her patented Eye of the Storm powerbomb.
After a series of near-falls, Stratton seized momentum with a perfectly timed counter off the top rope, which left Cargill laid out on the mat. She then soared through the air, nailing her “Prettiest Moonsault Ever” to secure the victory and retain her championship.
Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul defeat Randy Orton & Jelly Roll
Jelly Roll delivered an unforgettable performance in his WWE in-ring debut, carrying himself like a seasoned veteran from the opening bell. The country music star took a brutal blow when Paul sent him crashing through the announce table with a jaw-dropping flying elbow, seemingly taking him out of the fight. But in a moment of pure heart, Jelly heroically pulled himself back into the ring, determined to finish the match.
Jelly Roll built momentum with a series of powerful clotheslines, followed by a thunderous chokeslam to The Maverick. He continued to impress by countering Paul into a massive top-rope powerslam, bringing the crowd to its feet. But the momentum wouldn’t last—Drew McIntyre leveled him with a Claymore Kick, setting up Paul to seal the win with his signature “Paul From Grace” frog splash, earning the victory for his team.
World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk defeats Gunther (c)
CM Punk earned his title shot after a hard-fought victory in a Gauntlet match on Raw, where he overcame Bron Breakker. Meanwhile, Gunther enters the match riding high after defeating Goldberg in his farewell match at Saturday Night’s Main Event just two weeks ago.
Punk endured a brutal onslaught early in the match, as Gunther unleashed a series of vicious knife-edged chops, stifling any chance of momentum for the challenger. Despite the early dominance, frustration began to mount for the champion. Gunther nailed a dropkick followed by a powerbomb, but Punk managed to kick out at two, refusing to be put away that easily.
Punk finally found some respite when he caught Gunther celebrating on top of the announcers’ table, expertly taking out the champion’s legs and sending him crashing into the monitors, which busted him open. With Gunther reeling in the ring, Punk seized the moment, delivering not one, but two GTS (Go to Sleep), and clinching his first championship in over a decade.
After the match, Seth Rollins’ music hit, and Mr. Money in the Bank appeared with Paul Heyman, walking on crutches and holding the briefcase. But it was all a ruse. Rollins tossed aside the crutches, removed his knee brace, and stormed his way to the ring. He then struck Punk with the briefcase multiple times before handing it to the referee to officially cash in his contract.
With Punk incapacitated, Rollins delivered his signature stomp, securing the victory and becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion. No one captures the moment quite like the Visionary.
What a night.
