It was speculated about for a while, but it is now official that former five-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles, will make his long-awaited return to TNA on Sunday, July 20, at Slammiversary.
“The Phenomenal One” competed in TNA from 2002-2014 and is one of the company’s biggest superstars in history. Along with the Heavyweight title, Styles is the first TNA Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion. He is a six-time TNA X Division Champion, a six-time World Tag Team Champion, and a two-time Television Champion.
In his time in TNA, Styles achieved everything there was to accomplish in the company and left to join NJPW in 2014, eventually entering the WWE in 2016. At the beginning of 2025, WWE and TNA announced a multi-year partnership that will feature the companies collaborating. Once that was announced, a Styles return to his home seemed inevitable.
This year, TNA has experienced a resurgence, gaining significant momentum. For Slammiversary, TNA has sold the most tickets for an event since Lockdown in 2013. It is currently unknown if Styles will make an appearance or if he will have a surprise match.
