The Washington Commanders have been one of the biggest surprises this NFL season. Led by rookie Jayden Daniels, the Commaders are off to a 7-3 start which marks the organization’s best start to a season since 1996.
This has led to a heated race in the NFC East where the Eagles still hold first place with their 7-2 record. Philadelphia is currently considered -210 favorites to win the NFC East, but this will change if the Commanders can pick up the head-to-head victory on the road in Week 11. These two teams will also face off in Week 16.
The Eagles enter the matchup as 3.5-point favorites with -192 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Commanders are considered +160 underdogs on the moneyline with the over/under set at 48.5 points.
Here’s a look at some of the most intriguing player props ahead of Thursday night’s matchup.
Jalen Hurts Anytime TD (-110)
After a bit of a rocky start to the season, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have returned to form. Hurts’ monstrous frame and impressive strength make him an effective goal-line back even while sharing the backfield with Saquon Barkley.
Hurts is up to 10 rushing touchdowns already this season after recording 15 last season. The former second-round pick tallied a rushing touchdown in 11 of the 17 games last year and has reached the end zone with his legs in six of the nine games this year. Hurts also has recorded a rushing touchdown in four consecutive weeks tallying a ridiculous eight rushing touchdowns during this span.
While the “tush-push” steals most of the headlines, Hurts is also plenty capable of taking a zone read or quarterback draw for a notable chunk of yards and recording a touchdown. He also is nearly automatic on the opportunities when the ball is spotted at the 1-yard line and both teams brace for the inevitable play call. Regardless of how it occurs, the Eagles will give Hurts plenty of opportunities to reach pay dirt with his legs. Getting -110 odds is great value weekly and this is especially the case against a Commanders team that ranks 16th in rushing touchdowns allowed.
Saquon Barkley Over 95.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
Saquon Barkley has been everything Eagles fans have hoped for and more through the start of the season. The former Giants star has built a quiet MVP case and is holding the 18th-best odds for the award at +9000. Overall, he is second in the league in rushing yards and has carried the ball 171 times for 991 yards and six touchdowns. He also has added 158 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air.
So far this season, Barkley has rushed for over 95.5 yards in five of the nine games. He has a great chance to add to this total as he prepares to face a Commanders defense that ranks 28th in rushing yards allowed and 29th in net yards per rush attempt. Washington has allowed over 100 cumulative rushing yards in all but one game this season. The closest player comparison is Derrick Henry who ran for 132 yards against the Commanders.
Expect the Eagles to allow their star running back to make plenty of plays and put the ball in his hands often. He has carried the ball double-digit times in every game and recorded 22 or more carries in four separate games. Barkley is capable of taking any carry for a massive gain and has a great chance of recording over 95.5 rushing yards again this week.
Jalen Hurts to have a 15+ Yard Rush & Jayden Daniels to have a 15+ Yard Rush (+300)
Located in the Players Specials on DraftKings, there is great value for Hurts and Daniels to each record a rush of 15+ yards in this matchup. These are two of the premier dual-threat quarterbacks in the league and both guys make use of their legs weekly.
Jalen Hurts is averaging 42.0 rushing yards per game this season with his lowest rushing output being 20 yards. He has recorded a rush of over 15 yards in five of the nine games thus far. Jayden Daniels has run for an average of 46.4 rushing yards per game and has recorded a rush for 15+ yards in four games this season.
Both these quarterbacks will receive carries as a part of the scripted offense and are capable of ad-libbing for a useful scramble at any point. Recording 15 yards is not a high enough bar based on the big play impact both possess with their legs. There is increased risk with both players needing to hit this number for the ticket to cash, but expect everything to be on the table as this pair of dual-threat QBs face off for the first time. Hurts has looked more comfortable with his legs in recent weeks while Daniels may be forced to make an impact on the ground game based on the Eagles’ strong defense. Getting +300 odds for this is a solid value and worth taking a chance on.
Jahan Dotson Anytime TD (+600)
This is a bit of a longshot pick, but the +600 odds are worth a swing. The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders agreed to a rare cross-division trade shortly before the season sending Jahan Dotson to Philadelphia. The Eagles were looking to add to their receiver depth and the two sides agreed to some late-round draft pick swaps to make the deal work.
Dotson tallied 1041 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns across his two seasons with the Commanders. However, he has underwhelmed for the Eagles thus far. Through the opening nine games, he has produced just eight receptions for 98 yards. Dotson has taken some time to adjust to the offense and has not had a breakout performance yet. However, he is coming off back-to-back weeks with 27+ receiving yards and has logged 42 percent or more of the offensive snaps in all but one game this season.
With the revenge factor in mind, don’t be surprised if this is his best game of the season. The Eagles have begun to get more creative with their offense as players like Johnny Wilson recorded a touchdown catch last week. It feels certain Dotson will have an opportunity for a significant catch and converting it to a touchdown would be the best way to stick it to his former team. Dotson has yet to have his breakout performance in an Eagles uniform, so this could be the perfect week to have it.
