Who Won the Power of Veto on Big Brother Tonight? Week 2 Results

Sunday’s episode of Big Brother ended on a cliffhanger after Rick Devens’ nomination ceremony erupted into chaos.

With a plan to backdoor Rome already in motion, Wednesday’s Power of Veto competition suddenly became one of the most important competitions of the young season.

Will Devens successfully backdoor Rome? Where does the verbal sparring at the end of the nomination ceremony lead? Read below to find out.

Big Brother Season 28 Week 2 Results

Sunday’s episode began Week 2 of the summer-long competition, as a new Head of Household was crowned. The Crossovers dominated Week 1, and it looks like they’re only going to get more powerful, with yet another member of that alliance in the HOH room this week. That’s right, Rick Devens won the HOH competition, keeping the combined alliance of the Crossovers and the Red Corner — now known together as the Toolshed — firmly at the top of the game.

Big Brother Season 28 Episode 7 recap

Messy egg-splosive drama

We pick back up right where we left off, with Angela delivering her dramatic speech against Jason. Barrett called it THE showdown between Humpty Dumpty and the Green Goblin in the craziest nomination ceremony in BB history. But it didn’t end with Jason telling America to hate him as Haley exposed Jason for his plan to get his girls out slowly, which Devens sort of confirmed from his own interaction from the night before. He asks didn’t Devens fall for it? Well, no, since Jason is on the block.

Then she turned her attention to Rome, calling him out for putting LaLa’s head up on a platter. Rome defended himself saying he didn’t say that … in so many words. In the end, the nomination ceremony came to an awkward, chaotic end with multiple house guests crying. And Rome made it even worse coming at Haley, letting his Cool Hand Luke facade slip for the first time this season. It really wasn’t a good look for Rome to tell Haley to know when to shut up. Haley is far from the most popular person in the house, but Rome did nothing to help his case with the way he reacted in that moment.

Meanwhile, Melody is left in tears, feeling like she’s played a bad game and has made every wrong decision. Of course, if you remember correctly, she ran away from Mallory as fast as she could for similar behavior last week. And Lyric is pissed at Devens, unhappy with how he’s playing and left feeling like he can’t be trusted.

Angela is left in tears as a result Jason’s betrayal, which he can’t deny. She says wanted to be there for Jason, to love him, but being caught red-handed leaves Jason feeling like he all he can do is apologize, even if he has to get in one more egg pun. Angela is willing to forgive, but she is CERTAINLY not willing to forget. And in her eyes, she did her best to show the house how messy Jason really is.

The crying game

LaLa comes out of the meeting feeling like Rome has completely taken advantage of and blindsided that Rome didn’t feel compelled to save her. Taylor thinks they should just lay low on the sidelines and let the various sides take each other out.

Of course, amid all the drama in the house, Devens and Dee are celebrating that everyone is pissed with each other and no one has their names in their mouths. Dee is left nearly speechless, says it was a dream come true and the fireworks were even better than the Fourth of July. She even says it was the best day of her life, better than winning Survivor! Jeff Probst is gonna be pissed!

Chuk is also cool with the drama, as long as his allies aren’t caught up in the chaos. He likes that everyone’s alliance and game kind of got blown up. Speaking of games that got blown up, Rome gets emotional talking about how he hurt LaLa, noting that he wanted to protect everyone’s game but seeing her hurt got him so bad. Like Angela, LaLa is willing to forgive, but won’t forget and certainly doesn’t trust Rome anymore, even if somehow she is still willing to comfort him amid the emotional wreckage he has wrought. And Yash is there. For some reason. Who knows why.

Damage control

Despite everything that happened, Rome has to respect good game play. And Devens played him, and moreover he can’t show Devens how angry he is and he has to do everything he can to stay off the block.

Rome says there’s no bad blood, and Devens says it’s not personal. Devens even likes Rome more now than before the nomination ceremony for his ability to turn right around and come talk to Devens respectfully after all that craziness. But that’s even more of a reason Devens needs him out of the game.

The reality icons get together to download after everything that happened. Angela wants to make sure Devens doesn’t crack (sorry for yet another egg pun) and bail on the plan to backdoor Rome. He is still on board, and we end with Angela as an egg leading a prayer to the BB gods. You have to love this silly, wonderful game.

The mood is decidedly more somber with Melody and Lyric, with Melody admitting she doesn’t trust Jason or Rome. But somehow she still trusts Drew, who kind of caused the messiness we all just witnessed. Lyric doesn’t want to panic and is focused on the veto comp, which is Melody’s plan too, but she also wants to find new allies to play with.

Meeting with Devens, Melody admits she has to rebuild her whole game and doesn’t feel like she is with anyone but Drew. Devens says of all the people on the block, she’s the one whose game could potentially be salvaged. Devens is potentially open to bringing her into his alliance with Drew, but has concerns. Melody still respects Devens as a player, but feels some sort of way about him nominating “two little girls,” mocking him as a big, tough dude, and basically says she doesn’t want to play with him. Not sure I understand the logic of her anger at the nominations aside from being nominated, but it is what it is.

Rome continues to love bomb Lyric, who wants to protect her own game but the prospect of Rome leaving makes her want to cry as he’s the only person she trusts. Meanwhile, he’s telling her that he can see them getting married one day, which again I’d like to remind you THEY’VE KNOWN EACH OTHER TWO WEEKS! Amid the lovefest, Jason walks in and the talk turns back to game and Rome wants to be in this veto comp so he can take Lyric off and they can both be safe. And heading into the Power of Veto competition, Jason feels like no one will play for him and he can only count on himself to get off the block.

Luck of the Draw

When it comes to Veto comp players, Devens wants anyone from his Toolshed alliance picked and DEFINITELY does not want Rome. Meanwhile, Rome is BEGGING to be picked to take Lyric off the block to safety. So what happens? Two Toolshed alliance members — Angela and Barrett — are selected to play, which is ideal for the backdoor plan. The BB gods appear to be preying upon the fall of Rome at this point.

Barrett and Angela are both thinking they’ll use the veto on Melody should they win, meanwhile Drew is still trying to keep up appearances with Rome, trying to play right down the middle. He is down to evict Rome, but wants to be in a good spot should Rome escape and remain in the house. But there’s no doubt — if Rome is on the block when it comes time to vote, he’s probably heading home.

At the same time, Devens is liking his odds in the veto comp, as the Toolshed has half the field. When it comes to who to take off if one of the Toolshed members win the veto, a decision still has to be made on who to save. Drew wants it to be Melody, who he has been working with closely and has his back. But would she come after Devens if she comes off the block? Who’s to say, but it’s fair to say any of the three who might come down have reason to feel some sort of way about Devens after the drama of the nomination ceremony.

Devens finds the groove

The veto comp takes the houseguests to July 22, 1967 (of course Drew would make a 6-7 joke). It’s time for the Festival of Love and the goal of the veto comp is to assemble a “fab” festival poster using 12 puzzle pieces scattered around the festival grounds. The first houseguest to correctly build the poster will win “Flower Power” and the Power of Veto.

Jason seems to have found a strong strategy, looking at the distance between pegs and the correlating size of the pieces. Lyric says she’s a puzzle girl through and through, but this is no ordinary puzzle. But Melody and Barrett are STRUGGLING, looking like they’d rather be anywhere else than piecing together this psychedelic puzzle.

Angela is the first to lock in, but she doesn’t quite have it right. Things all come together for Devens, which he likens to A Beautiful Mind, and he locks in just before Jason to win the competition and this week’s Power of Veto. Things aren’t looking so groovy for Rome at this point.

Fake it ’til you make it

Rome is desperate to keep Lyric in the game, so he comes to the decision with Lyric that they have to pretend that they are broken up to protect her game. They decide Rome will act like he barely knows Lyric in hopes of lowering her threat level. Lyric doesn’t like the idea of being separated from her beau for even a moment, but perhaps this is the perfect plan to give them more time for more cuddles (her words, not mine).

To that end, suddenly she’s becoming more flirty with some of the other guys, specifically Chuk and Yash. Rome and Lyric both go throughout the house telling anyone that will listen that they’ve broken up … and maybe are doing a little bit too much because Drew clocks it right away (even if Yash seems none the wiser). In the midst of this plan, Lyric goes to meet with Devens to plead her case, offering the idea to put Rome on the block (which she justifies as being the plan anyways). Lyric promises if Devens uses the veto on her, Lyric will always be a number for him and would never put him on the block. Devens is buying this pitch, loving that Lyric is playing the game. Despite all evidence to the contrary, he believes her and is beginning to think maybe it makes more sense to take Lyric off the block and leave Melody up there.

Could this crazy fake breakup plan that no one (well, almost no one. Sorry, Yash) is buying actually work?

Pitch perfect Lyric, sour Melody

Melody makes her pitch to stay, but Devens head is spinning and thinks (right or wrong) that if he takes Lyric off he can still save some face with Rome in the event that he survives and stays in the game. Drew tries to make his pitch to save Melody, sharing his thoughts that the Rome-Lyric breakup is fake. Devens admits this is probably true, but he’s getting more and more concerned about how close Drew is getting with Melody. It could actually be pushing him toward away from saving Melody.

Angela thinks it makes the most sense to take Melody off, as it reduces the chance for the showmance to survive. Dee, on the other hand, sees more opportunity by leaving Melody on the block as she’s more of a player than Lyric. She argues Lyric could even be like a lost puppy if Rome goes home. Devens sees pros and cons on all sides, but still understands that ultimately he’s probably going to burn a bridge no matter what direction he decides to go in.

When the rubber meets the road, Devens decides to take Lyric off the block and put up Rome as a replacement nominee. He says it is pure gameplay move given how big a threat Rome is. Devens says he trusts Lyric more than Melody, and that’s the method behind his madness. But make no mistake, all the work he has done this week is to send Rome home. But, in her own words, Lyric is hoping that love will win and Rome says you’re going to see the real Rome come out on Thursday. One thing was for sure — Devens did no favors for himself with Melody, who guaranteed that if she survives and becomes HOH, Devens will be the first name to hit the block.

It all comes down to one of the most consequential BB Blockbusters ever on Thursday. Game on.
