College football season gets into full swing with Week 1 kicking off on Labor Day weekend, delivering a five-day slate of games. Here’s everything I’ve bet so far for the Week 1 card.
Boise State/Utah ML Parlay (+105) 1-unit (Thursday) — After opening a double-digit road favorite, Boise State has dropped below a touchdown on the spread. While I love a good home dog, I don’t understand all the hype for the Bulls in this game. The Broncos lose Ashton Jeanty, but have capable running backs to fill the void, and return most of their other top talent. I like them to come away with the win, as is the case with the Utes. It’s shaping up to be a down year for UCLA, who has virtually zero home field advantage. Utah was decimated on offense last season, and seems to have fixed all of those problems. Kyle Whittingham says this is his best offensive line yet, and we know the defense is always nasty. Big season incoming for the Utes.
Buffalo +17.5 (-105) 1.5-units (Thursday) — Buffalo was a sharp play when this one opened, but now we’ve seen the line cross back over 17. I’m against the recent steam on Minnesota. Not that the Golden Gophers don’t have a good team, but I expect to see both teams run the ball and play solid defense, which plays into the underdog role — particularly with a low total bet down to 43.5. This is a very well coached Buffalo squad that’s taken a lot of money in the MAC. I expect them to be able to come out and stay within striking distance. Read more in my article on this game.
Georgia Tech -4 (-112) 1-unit (Friday) — I’m down on the Buffs this season with all the star power out the door. A healthy and experienced Georgia Tech team has a shot to really separate itself here. I wrote up my full analysis on this game here for DK Network.
Baylor +2.5 (-112) 2-units (Friday) — Baylor has the quarterback offense and returns almost al its offensive production from an elite offense. At home on Friday night I feel the wrong team is favored here. Get my full analysis here on DK Network.
Ohio State ML (-130) 1.5-units (Saturday) — Texas money is starting to pound the market, which makes some sense with No. 1 overall being priced as a Week 1 underdog. Find out why I’m going the other way on this one in my article.
Southern Miss +13.5 (-110) 1-unit (Saturday) — This one opened 14.5 and the home dog took significant action, before getting bet back up closer to open. Mississippi State is bottom of the barrel in the SEC, but Southern Miss still gets a massive opportunity here to open up at home against an in-state SEC school on national television. The Golden Eagles transfer in all the top talent and coach from a very good Marshall team last season. Now sporting Golden Eagles gear, expect them to be up to the challenge.
Toledo +10 (-112) 0.5-units (Saturday) — The Rockets are no stranger to covering big numbers early in the season. They demolished low-level SEC competition on the road last season, with a 41-17 win at Mississippi State. The previous season they lost their opener at Illinois on a late field goal while catching nine points. Toledo returns an elite offense, and has a chance to catch a Kentucky team with a lot of moving pieces off guard here.
Clemson/Alabama ML Parlay (-111) 2-units (Saturday) — I expect the key to this one to be Clemson’s defensive line putting tons of pressure on the LSU offensive line. With the price moving Clemson’s direction, I added in another let to make this a parlay. Read why on DK Network.
Oregon State ML (-148) 1-unit and ML (-120) 1-unit (2-units total on ML) (Saturday) — Cal made a surprising decision to go with a true freshman quarterback over Devin Brown, an Ohio State transfer. Get my full handicap on this one right here.
TCU/UNC UNDER 58.5 (-110) 1-unit (Monday) — Bill Belichick makes his UNC debut on Monday Night Football. Expect some NFL schemes from him in this one, which probably means defense. I broke this game down further on DK Network.
