Closing out the Week 8 NFL slate with a Monday Night Football matchup, the Chicago Bears will face the Seattle Seahawks.
The Chicago Bears are off to a strong start to the season, sitting at 5-2 and tied for second place in the NFC North. The Seattle Seahawks have also gotten off to a solid start, posting a 4-3 record and sitting in second place in the NFC West as they look to defend their Super Bowl title.
Looking at the odds, the Seahawks enter as three-point home favorites with -170 Moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Bears hold +142 odds to pull off the upset, with the game total set at 46.5 points.
There are plenty of ways to get involved beyond just backing a side or total. Let’s take a look at my top three favorite player props for the Week 8 Monday Night Football matchup.
Bears at Seahawks NFL Player Prop Bets for Monday Night Football
Cooper Kupp Over 27.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
The outlook for Seattle’s passing game starts with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Through the opening seven games, JSN has tallied 58 receptions for an NFL-leading 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. However, the Bears will be well aware of the attention he commands and are likely to dedicate significant defensive resources to limiting his production. No other Seahawks player has more than 19 receptions or 199 receiving yards this season.
But this Chicago defense is vulnerable. The Bears enter this matchup ranked 19th in passing yards allowed and 21st in passing touchdowns conceded. They also rank last in the NFL in yards allowed per pass attempt and have surrendered a league-high nine completions of 40 or more yards. Chicago is allowing an average of 149.4 receiving yards per game to opposing wide receivers.
Someone must step up for this Seattle attack, and I expect Cooper Kupp to answer the call. He has tallied 18 receptions for 199 yards this year, recording over 29.5 receiving yards in three of the seven games. While he is not the Super Bowl MVP-caliber player he once was, Kupp has pulled in at least two receptions in all but one game and is playing 68.1% of the offensive snaps. Expect Kupp to be capable and willing to scale up his role as Smith-Njigba faces the bulk of the defensive attention. His impact will especially be important with Rashid Shaheed sidelined with a knee injury. Given the vulnerability of the Chicago secondary, don’t be shocked if it takes just one reception for the 33-year-old to clear this line. Expect him to see more chances and for the 27.5 receiving yard total to be too low.
Caleb Williams Over 23.5 Rushing Yards (-112)
Caleb Williams is best known for his arm talent, but he is also a more dangerous rushing threat than he sometimes gets credit for. The USC product has recorded 24 rushing attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns across the four games he has played this season. Williams ripped off 65 and 42 rushing yards in his first two appearances but has been more hesitant since returning from injury. Across his two most recent games, the 24-year-old has combined for just 21 rushing yards.
This matchup against Seattle’s defense should create opportunities for Williams to get back on track as a runner. The Seahawks have built their identity around a physical defense that helped pave the way to last year’s Super Bowl victory. They have also been effective at generating pressure, recording 17 sacks through their first seven games.
Williams is at his most dangerous on the ground when escaping pressure and creating opportunities in scramble situations. When facing the Vikings earlier this season, who have also been among the league’s top teams in generating pressure, he tallied 42 rushing yards. The Seahawks have allowed opposing quarterbacks to combine for 127 rushing yards on 30 attempts this season. Drake Maye provides an example of the opportunities available, having recorded 47 rushing yards against Seattle in the season opener. Williams has looked physically healthy and is likely just shaking off the mental hurdles of the hamstring issue. Expect the Seahawks to put pressure on him throughout the night, forcing him to make plays outside the pocket with this 23.5 rushing yard line too low for his skill set.
Colston Loveland Anytime Touchdown (+230)
It has been a frustrating season for Colston Loveland. Through the opening seven games, the 22-year-old has recorded 26 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns. He struggled during the early portion of the schedule, being limited to just one reception for three yards across his first two games and totaling 13 receptions for 110 yards through Week 5.
However, Loveland has started to find his footing, coming alive over the past two weeks. He has reached the end zone in back-to-back games while recording 13 receptions for 134 receiving yards during that stretch. The Michigan product put together an impressive rookie campaign last year, finishing with 713 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He has not consistently replicated that production early this season, but his importance to the offense has grown even more following the season-ending knee injury suffered by Cole Kmet last week.
Seattle has an elite defense, which will require some creativity from the Bears to put points on the board. But Ben Johnson has as deep of a playbook as any coach in the NFL, and Loveland will now be looked at as the clear top tight end moving forward. The Seahawks have allowed two touchdowns to opposing tight ends so far this year, which makes up 25% of their passing scores conceded in total. Count on Loveland being a key part of the plan of attack and reaching paydirt for the third straight week.
