The American League Championship Series shifts back to Tropicana Field for Monday’s Game 6, with the Tampa Bay Rays one win away from capturing the AL pennant over the Cleveland Guardians.
The Rays took a 3–2 series lead with back-to-back wins in Cleveland. They now have two chances in their backyard to punch their ticket to the World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers — with the Guardians looking to force a Game 7 in enemy territory.
Looking at the pitching probables, Cleveland right-hander Shawn Armstrong (2–1, 4.58 ERA) will open against Tampa Bay righty Freddy Peralta (10–11, 4.42 ERA).
First pitch is at 8 p.m. ET. The Rays enter as 1.5-run home favorites with -158 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Guardians are +130 underdogs, with the game total set at O/U 6.5 runs.
Guardians vs. Rays ALCS Game 6 Preview
Cleveland Guardians
With their season on the line, the Guardians will turn to their bullpen in Game 6. Veteran right-hander Shawn Armstrong gets another nod as the opener, after throwing a combined four scoreless innings across Games 2, 4, and 5. Although Cleveland’s pitching staff has performed admirably throughout the Championship Series, it’s hard to ignore that the club is running out of arms. And according to manager Steven Vogt, ace Gavin Williams won’t be available out of the bullpen on short rest.
With the pitching staff running on fumes, the Guardians will need plenty of run support. Franchise centerpiece Jose Ramirez and rookie Chase DeLauter have provided strong contributions so far, with the latter leading both teams with a 1.123 OPS in the ALCS. That said, Cleveland’s collective offense has hit a wall at the worst possible time: the club has plated no more than three runs in a game since the series opener, mustering just one run in Sunday’s Game 5 loss.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays are one win away from their first World Series appearance since 2020. They retook control with back-to-back wins in Cleveland and now carry all the momentum back to a raucous home crowd at the Trop.
Tampa Bay’s “Big Three” led the charge in Games 4 and 5. Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda went a combined 10-for-19 with five RBIs and five runs scored during that stretch, while Junior Caminero added a clutch RBI double in Game 4. That seemed contagious on Sunday, with the Rays stringing together 12 hits in the Game 5 win.
Just 27 outs away from the Fall Classic, Tampa Bay will hand the ball back to Freddy Peralta. The veteran right-hander has parlayed a post-deadline rebound into postseason dominance: he owns a 0.79 ERA across 11.1 October innings. Before getting two quick outs in Game 4, Peralta delivered six scoreless frames with six strikeouts in Game 2.
Guardians vs. Rays ALCS Game 6 Pick, Best Bet
Momentum is everything in October, and the Rays are heading back to Tampa Bay with plenty of it. After dropping back-to-back home games, the Guardians will face elimination on the road with a stalling offense and a depleted pitching staff. With two games to get it done, the Rays likely won’t waste any time whipping out the champagne bottles and ski goggles in their clubhouse.
