How Much Money Did The Social Reckoning Make at the Box Office This Weekend?

While horror movies typically soak up a lot of the box office this time of year, October is also when buzzy dramas and awards hopefuls start to go wide. Digger was a historic flop last weekend, putting even more pressure on several upcoming releases to find an audience. The Social Reckoning hit theaters on October 9, just over 16 year after The Social Network premiered. So how much business did Aaron Sorkin’s quasi-sequel starring Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison reel in over its first three days on the big screen?

Here is a breakdown of how The Social Reckoning performed at the box office this past weekend:

The Social Reckoning Box Office

The Social Reckoning made an estimated $5.5 million at the box office between October 9 and October 11. Back in 2010, David Fincher’s The Social Network debuted to $22.4 million – $34.0 million, adjusted to inflation. This is just Aaron Sorkin’s second directorial effort to garner a wide theatrical release, since The Trial of the Chicago Seven and Being the Ricardos were both streaming originals from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His directorial debut, Molly’s Game, maxed out at $6.9 million in its second weekend of a slower holiday rollout in 2017, which is equivalent to $9.0 million in 2026 dollars.

According to Deadline, The Social Reckoning made $650K in domestic Thursday night previews. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $2.3 million Friday gross. It proceeded to make $1.8 million on Saturday and $1.5 million on Sunday. Among films based on a true story that have come out in 2026, The Social Reckoning opened lower than Michael, Young Washington and Primetime. It also failed to beat I Can Only Imagine 2‘s $7.8 million, By Any Means‘ $7.5 million and Pressure‘s $5.8 million.

Looking beyond the United States and Canada, The Social Reckoning has reeled in an additional $3.5 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $9.0 million worldwide this weekend. For context, The Social Network eventually reached $224.9 million globally. Compared to other films based on real-life newspaper investigations into a massive criminal conspiracies, Spotlight in 2015 and She Said in 2022, those legged out to $98.7 million and $13.9 million worldwide, respectively.
