It’s officially spooky season, marking the annual spike for people binging horror movies. Resident Evil has been the only notable horror flick at the box office this fall, though, leaving the door open for a massive breakout hit as Halloween approaches. Other Mommy hit theaters on October 9, three months after its initial trailer terrified audiences in front of The Odyssey. So how much business did the horror movie starring Jessica Chastain reel in over its first three days on the big screen?
Here is a breakdown of how Other Mommy performed at the box office this past weekend:
Other Mommy Box Office
Other Mommy made an estimated $27.5 million at the box office between October 9 and October 11. This marks the first time Chastain has had a film score a $1 million opening weekend since The 355 opened to $4.6 million in January 2022. Going back even further, Other Mommy is Chastain’s best opening since It: Chapter Two‘s $91.1 million in September 2019. Among Blumhouse Productions’ four horror releases this year, Other Mommy beat out Insidious: Out of the Further‘s $25.1 million opening, Obsession‘s $17.2 million start and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy‘s $13.5 million debut.
According to Deadline, Other Mommy made $3.6 million in domestic Thursday night previews. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $12.6 million Friday gross. It proceeded to make $9.0 million on Saturday and $6.0 million on Sunday. Other Mommy had the fourth-highest opening weekend by a horror movie so far in 2026, coming in behind Backrooms, Scream 7 and Resident Evil.
Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Other Mommy has reeled in an additional $17.7 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $45.2 million worldwide this weekend. Obsession is far and away Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie of 2026 globally at $520.0 million, followed by Insidious: Out of the Further at $169.5 million and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy at $90.6 million. Other Mommy may not be at that level yet, but it could move up the list if it has legs moving forward. Lackluster reviews could limit the film’s potential, however.
