MarShawn Lloyd Rushing Yards Pick for Falcons vs. Packers

The NFL’s Week 3 slate kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. 

The Falcons (0–2, 3rd NFC South) are coming off a 34–3 thumping by the Carolina Panthers, but will hope to bounce back with returning quarterback Michael Penix Jr. under center.  The Packers (1–1, 2nd NFC North) are riding high from a 20–17 overtime win over the New York Jets, which added further intrigue to the squad’s backfield committee.

Few running back situations are more uncertain than Green Bay’s. With Josh Jacobs on the commissioner-exempt list, many expected MarShawn Lloyd to take over as the squad’s interim RB1. Instead, the Packers have employed a backfield committee that also features Chris Brooks and Kaleb Johnson.

Lloyd, who entered the season with only six NFL carries to his name, recorded a team-high 13 carries for 37 yards in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Vikings. Brooks handled seven rush attempts, while Johnson was limited to just two special teams snaps. 

The workload changed considerably in Week 2, as Johnson led the way with eight carries for 32 yards in Green Bay’s overtime win over the Jets. Lloyd finished second with six carries for 20 yards, while also catching both of his targets for six yards and his first career touchdown.

However, the USC product played in only 27 percent of Green Bay’s snaps against the Jets, down from 44 percent in Week 1. He also didn’t garner a single touch after losing a fumble in the fourth quarter.

Lloyd, 25, will likely have an even smaller role in Week 3, given his shortcomings paired with Johnson’s rising stock. After falling below 25.5 rushing yards against the Jets, he should do the same against the Falcons on Thursday Night Football.
