Matthew Golden Start or Sit Advice for Week 3
With Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks both out of town, Matthew Golden ($7,800) has taken on a much bigger role this season and his numbers have been solid. The second-year wideout posted 15.5 FPTS vs. the Vikings in Week 1 and 9.8 FPTS vs. the Jets in Week 2, both of which aren’t easy matchups.
After running a route on 58% of his team’s dropbacks as a rookie, Golden is leading the Packers with an 89% route rate this season. His target share has also increased from 10% to 25.4% and his YPPR average has increased from 1.5 to 2.2.
Golden has already seen eight red-zone targets – which ranks second in the NFL – but he has yet to score a touchdown, so he is due for some positive regression in that department. Golden has also garnered three targets over 20 yards.
The 23-year-old’s usage has been immense and his target share is likely to grow even further with Jayden Reed (neck) possibly done for the season.
Golden is going to have some big fantasy performances soon, but his Week 3 matchup vs. the Falcons isn’t easy. Atlanta is pressuring quarterbacks at the highest rate and it is giving up the 11th-fewest yards per pass this season (6.2). Notably, a wide receiver hasn’t caught a touchdown vs. the Falcons.
Still, Golden’s role is so strong that he should put a decent fantasy score in this matchup. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Golden’s prop lines are 4.5 catches for 52.5 yards and he presents +210 odds to score a touchdown.
While Golden’s upside feels capped vs. the Falcons, he should score 10-15 FPTS and is a viable WR3/FLEX play for season-long leagues.
