The SEC keeps rolling on with another marquee matchup. Oklahoma (2-1) survived a scare against New Mexico, but it comes into today’s game unranked with plenty to prove. Picking up a massive road victory could turn things around for the Sooners. That’s easier said than done against the second-ranked team in college football. #2 Georgia (3-0) is a juggernaut, looking more than capable of winning yet another national championship. Can the Bulldogs take down another prestigious program in Athens?
The Bulldogs are listed as 14-point favorites over the Sooners, with the total set at O/U 44.5 points. Below is my full preview, prediction and best bet for Saturday’s Oklahoma vs. Georgia Week 4 matchup.
Oklahoma vs. Georgia prediction, preview
As previously mentioned, Week 3 was quite the disappointment for OU. The Sooners barely eked by New Mexico, securing a 14-6 win at home. Most troubling was the running game, which racked up a modest total of 61 rushing yards. This season, the school is averaging just 3.31 yards per carry; that’s second-worst in the SEC. However, the sloppy play carried over to all facets of this offense. Dual-threat quarterback John Mateer coughed up two interceptions against the Lobos, continuing his up-and-down play in Norman. Expect top wide receiver Isaiah Satenga to get targeted early and often in this one, especially if Oklahoma finds itself in an early deficit.
Putting up points is no guarantee for the Sooners against anyone. That’s especially true when facing off with one of college football’s most intimidating defensive units. The Bulldogs were stifling last weekend, holding Arkansas to three points over three quarters before putting in backups late. This is a Kirby Smart-coached team after all; toughness in the trenches and elite secondary play are the expectation. UGA allowed just 17.6 points per game last season, second only to Oklahoma (15.5) in the SEC. That’s continued into 2026, thanks in large part to an overpowering run defense. Georgia is giving up just 63.5 rushing yards per game, ninth-best among all FBS programs. As previously mentioned, Oklahoma has had massive issues moving the ball on the ground.
On the other side of the ball, Gunner Stockton is emerging as one of college football’s elite quarterbacks. The senior has thrown for 583 yards and nine touchdowns through three games, all while avoiding an interception. He leads all passers in yards per attempt (13.0) and quarterback rate (259.3). There’s a bit of uncertainty in the backfield, where leading rusher Nick Frazier (foot) is dealing with an injury. However, early indications suggest that he should be good to go on Saturday. Even if there’s less emphasis on the running game, a talented group of Georgia pass catchers can pick up the slack.
Despite their offensive ineptitude, the Sooners are one of college football’s most intimidating defenses. Even during their lone loss of the season, at Michigan, the team allowed just 17 points and 263 total yards. This season, Brent Venables’ crew is allowing just 7.7 points per game. They currently lead the SEC in tackles for loss (26.0) and opponent third down conversions (22.50%). However, it’s fair to wonder if this group will be at full strength. Standout defensive tackle David Stone (knee) is questionable to suit up on Saturday. Even if the junior does take the field, he probably won’t be as effective.
Best Bet: Georgia -13.5 (-126)
Stone’s injury adds an unwelcome variable to Oklahoma’s stout defense. There’s enough depth to stay respectable on that side of the ball, but it may not be enough. This Sooners offense, especially when it comes to running the ball, looks like a mess. Fresh off of Week 3’s New Mexico debacle, an immediate turnaround at Georgia feels like wishful thinking. Back the Bulldogs this afternoon in front of their frenzied home crowd.
